A letter to the Defeated Dreamer,
Being PRESENT has never been harder.
We distract ourselves from the lives we don’t love anymore...
The life we planned:
Marriage
Money
Kids
Career
University
Why does it feel so empty?
When did this start?
We know how we found refuge in becoming quieter, feeling LESS to dull the ache of unfulfillment.
Over time that turned us into tired ghosts - merely floating, obeying, alive but only as a shell
rolling in the waves of time.
Drifting through the chaos
instead of learning to swim.
Isn’t it a bit sad how we wished to be older when we were young?
Believing that once we were older, we’d be free.
And once we were free, we’d be HAPPY.
Now we’ve got the freedom & yet we choose to remain here.
We can’t help but look back at those days of teen angst - the heartbreak, the supervision.
We entered our twenties believing we had it all figured out; then came bills, responsibility, *more heartbreak*, followed by confusion laced with lessons.
It’s amazing we’ve all made it to this year, honestly.
We’ve arrived at a new chapter, one begging to be written with a fresh perspective… a new arc.
So:
What will you make of it?
More misery at a job you hate?
More years with a person you know isn’t your “forever”?
More parading as a fraud - the version of you shaped from other people’s expectations?
Or will you change?
Will you leave?
& quit?
& disappoint your family to find your own happiness?
& flee to play out the fantasies you once thought “that couldn’t possibly happen to me”?
Real, healthy, burning love exists.
Change invites opportunity & excitement.
If you have the dream it’s because you can achieve it.
Moneys meant to be spent.
Life’s meant to be LIVED, messily and unplanned at times.
I hope you choose to chase your dreams this year.
I look forward to witnessing it when you decide you’ve had enough.
Future you is already thanking you for considering it. You’re waking up.
Cheers to the brave chapter we’re writing,
M
