It’s the end of Teacher Appreciation Week, so it feels fitting to officially introduce these three characters, especially since they come from such a deep place of appreciation.
When I first started creating the Dinoclusive Friends last year, several people told me I should do a children’s book. For the better part of a year, I mostly brushed that off.
I make no promises about where any of this eventually goes, but if I were ever going to build this little dinosaur world into something bigger, I knew it could not just be about the kids.
It needed teachers.
It needed helpers.
It needed the supportive adults who show up every day, do the work, love these kids, push them, protect them, and help them grow.
So I’m proud to introduce Ms. Kara, Ms. Kelsey, and Ms. Brooke.
These three have been such an important part of Harrison’s life for the last two years. As meaningful as Harrison’s friends have been to him, and to this whole project, these ladies have been right there in the middle of it all.
Ms. Kara was always going to be a brontosaurus, but she could not just be a larger version of Daisy. Her energy, glasses, and lanyard all had to be part of her.
Ms. Brooke, with her quiet, sweet, and steady presence, just clicked as an iguanodon. Friendly, approachable, and trustworthy.
And Ms. Kelsey had to have a bit more bite to her. She is sweet, loving, and supportive, but cross one of her kids the wrong way, and I’m pretty sure the claws would come out. So an allosaurus made perfect sense.
The Dinoclusive Friends started as a way to celebrate kids, inclusion, accessibility, communication, support, and the different ways children find their place in the world.
But kids do not grow in a vacuum.
They grow because people show up for them.
And these three have shown up.
So as Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, we just want to say thank you.
Thank you, Ms. Kara, Ms. Kelsey, and Ms. Brooke.
For loving our boy.
For helping him grow.
For being part of his story.
And now, for being part of this one, too. đź’š
