Sometimes we just have to be silly.

This picture was taken this summer when I was taking part in GISH - otherwise known as The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. The challenge was to meditate with potatoes. Stacking of potatoes was crucial to the challenge, but I didn't have many potatoes so I worked with what I had.

Today's conversation is about the silly things we've done. Sometimes these moments are intentional, sometimes not so much. Either way there were probably good for a giggle somewhere down the line.

Shall we laugh together about them today?

Good morning, Conversationalists! We've been on the road for a movie shoot, so today's topic is going to have to be about travel. What's one place you'd like to go someday that you haven't been to yet?

Me? I still want to visit NYC. My life goals include seeing a Broadway show. What about ou?

Conversation Topic of the day: What's your sleep posture?

My husband just gave me the worst start. He tends to sleep lying on his back. Sometimes he clasps his hands on his chest, looking for all the world like a co**se. I tell you, when you don't realize he's napping and find him abruptly in the chair like that, you can't help but be a little put off.

Do you think there's something he's not telling me? He does tend to prefer a somewhat nocturnal life.... O.o

Sometimes we wind up having to really dig deep to get through the hard things. Tonight I'll be writing all night, just to finish a project. So for today's conversation starter, answer this question:

When is the last time you stayed up all night to get something done? What were working on?

Ever have a really awesome conversation with a stranger? I do it all the time. The most unusual ones always seemed to happen on trains with me.

In one instance I was able to talk to a young man who worked out at the National Parks doing maintenance and other very necessary jobs. He said he'd put in for transfer about every two months to a different park. He'd worked so far at about 9 parks and had the goal of someday being able to say he'd worked at every single one. How cool is that?

Conversation Starter: Let's talk today about the conversations we wish we could have. Who would you like to talk to that you've never had a chance to have a conversation with?

For me that's always been my grandfather, Hal Carlson. He died back in 1930, two months before the birth of my mother. I think he must have had a fascinating life, even if it was cut short. Being a pitcher for the Chicago Cubs was only part of his life. Imagine the world he grew up in. Born in 1892, was a solider in France during WWI, and professional baseball player? Yeah, I think we could have had a really great talk.

What about you?

As with any project just starting out, there is a learning curve. At this point we know the end goal - we want to make movies which inspire conversation and open minds. We want people to see the world in a different way. Getting there is the complicated part.

This means we need to start the conversation here. With you. If you're reading this, stop to say 'hi.' Tell us something about who you are.

Me? I'm a writer who is at times an apparition (ghostwriter) or screenwriter. I fling myself onto movie sets because I want to learn everything. Someday I want to make my own films. :)

I look forward to welcoming you here. :)

I was caught by a phrase I heard yesterday: "There is nothing more permanent than something temporary."

The words are meant to be humorous but as I looked around I realized it to be true. The ratty chair we picked up at a thrift store 'Until we could find something better" is still here. So are the chipped dishes or a dozen other things lying about the house.

But what about the more serious 'temporary' arrangements we make? Like the job we took just to pay the bills until we could realize our dreams.

When we work with people at Written Virtuosity we hope we're helping people to get moving in the right direction. After all, sometimes we all just need a little push to get started.

Let's Talk: What's something in your life which was only meant to be "temporary"? What's something you can do today to move yourself along in the direction you truly want to go?
