There was a chemical spill along Highway 270 between NS208 and NS209 this afternoon. Law enforcement confirmed that one lane is currently closed. There is no estimated time for reopening as hazmat crews must conduct the cleanup.
“It was a semi-rollover crash with an acid tanker. The placard read 2031, which is nitric acid,” Sheriff Keith Frutiger said.
According to the CDC, nitric acid (HNO₃) is a colorless liquid that may produce yellow or red fumes and has an acrid odor. It is dangerously corrosive, and its fumes are toxic, creating a significant hazard in spill situations.
Please avoid the area so officials can complete the cleanup safely.
