Safe summer fun!
Who doesn’t love summer fun with your furry best friend? We do! Plan some fun activities with your pooch and keep them safe all summer long!
1. Hydrate! It’s just as important for your dog as it is for you. Nothing beats a cool drink on a hot day, right? Keep yourself and your best pal hydrated.
2. Summer foods! We all love them, but make sure anything you give your dog is safe for them to eat. The AKC puts out a great list (here: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/human-foods-dogs-can-and-cant-eat/) of human foods that you can share with Fido. And on the really hot days, keep their meals smaller and more frequent. Think 3 or 4 small meals, vs one big meal that may upset a hot tummy.
3. Swimming! My dog LOVES to swim more than anything, and I love swimming with him. Always check to make sure that the beaches you bring your buddy to allow dogs, rinse them down well afterwards, use a doggy lifejacket if your pal isn’t a strong swimmer, and watch for bacteria levels in fresh water
4. Flea and Tick control! Ticks seem especially bad this year, and there are so many flea and tick borne illnesses that can harm our dogs. Make sure you use a good preventative, and check them over after every outdoor adventure.
