I don't like posting bad news so I never mentioned that Culture Studios had to close due to a new landlord that I could not agree with. Now my BRAND NEW studio is almost complete! Soon I will continue to do what I love and help create more local culture!

What a great night we had! Thank you everyone for helping, participating and attending our Lingua Franca event. We sold 14 pieces of art, we exposed people to great culture, we engaged people in the the artist community and we had great time doing it. Please post any thoughts you have about the night. We would love to hear the feedback.

Special thanks to the featured artists Edmy and Audrey. Your works were bold and engaging. Your hearts were exposed and embraced by our guests. Your spirits will leave a lasting imprint on Culture Studios for a long time.

One more thing. Have I told you about the music happening this Friday? My friend and band mate Albino Mbie will entertain us with some solo jazz guitar.

Albino hails from Mozambique and has recently been granted an extended stay in the US by playing his guitar at the hearing. Over the summer he performed for the US and Mozambique presidents and Friday he is stopping by Culture Studios to entertain us before he heads to New York for the Mozambican embassy Peace Celebration on Saturday.

Edmy Ortiz is our 2nd featured artist at our gallery opening next Friday.

When I met Edmy i could tell right away with her look, poise and deep red lipstick she was a dancer. I soon found more specifically she is a Flamenco dance teacher and fine artist. Edmy has been a resident artist at Culture Studios for about 8 months where she teaches both her crafts. I attended one of her paint classes and she talked me through my first watercolor which came out miraculously good. The bright colors, bold lines and cultural significance of her art made her an easy choice for this show.

Lets take a quick look at one of our featured artists, Audrey Diallo.

She is a friend and inspiration to me. I first met her as an African drum teacher at DrumConnection. Her skills and passion for the art of drumming were remarkable. Audrey has a drive behind her and as her student I happily took a ride with her. After learning of her fine art skills, I commissioned her to make a CD cover for my Afro Pop band Koliba. While at her last gallery opening I purchased two of her works for my home and explained to her as a friend I would buy a piece from her, as a lover of her work I had to buy two.

Get ready for our big event! On the First Friday of October we our hosting our first gallery opening featuring Edmy Ortiz and Audrey Diallo. 2 fine artists with unique cultural points of view. We'll explore their work in next couple of weeks leading up to the opening.

I got a couple if additions to the studio this weekend. A 1972 Rhodes piano thanks to Norstrum and a 52 Fender twin reissue made by the Fender custom shop thanks to Belanger to make it sound extra sweet. Super big thanks to both of you!

I needed a softer sound on the big Dun Dun Drum. A little duct tape and a ball of string worked very well. The sound is going behind some chanting.
