These are the before and after results the same of lymphatic drainage massage with some applied heat to a client that has developed seroma for the second time post operation. The bulge in her upper abdomen is seroma (top picture is before massage)
The client received liposuction tummy tuck, and abdominal reconstruction about a month ago. And recently started receiving massage. Post-op lymphatic massages are very important for a healing process to prevent things such as seromas.
Seromas, or fluid buildups under the skin, are a common issue after liposuction. They occur when lymphatic fluid collects in cavities where fat was removed.
Seromas can be reabsorbed back into your body over a period of a few months on their own however if the area becomes very swollen, painful or the seroma doesn't improve you may need doctor or specially trained nurse can use a needle and syringe to drain the seroma. This can introduce bacteria, putting you at risk of infection and may cause the body to refill the cavity with more fluid. This is the body natural healing response. If not addressed promptly, seromas can harden, contributing to fibrosis development. In some cases the seroma may have to be drained more than once.
This is the clients second time developing a seroma and didnβt want to fly to her doctor for the second time. She came to me for help.
We applied some light heat using a cavitation machine. After, we did a lymphatic drainage massage.
Advanced massage techniques are used to stimulate and boost your lymphatic system and with light pressure and pumping techniques over the seroma and around the area with help manually drain the excess fluid and guide it to the lymph nodes where it will be filtered and eliminated.
For post care at home the client will be applying a compression garment and apply heat with a very warm towel or heating pad on a low setting every few hours followed by applying a ice pack, 15 -20 mins 2x daily exercises, applying suggested ointment i provided a custom-made tea for lymphatic drainage, swelling and Inflammation reduction.
She will continue her massage appointments 2xs minimum weekly for successful recovery.
