The Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Strength and Honor Motorcycle Club for hosting a fundraiser night in support of our K9 Unit, and to Ten Eyck Brewing Company for graciously providing the location.

Thanks to their incredible efforts and the generosity of everyone who participated, our K9 Unit received a $2,000 donation! 🐕‍🦺💙

This support means so much to us. These funds directly help our K9s continue their specialized training and provides for the ongoing care, equipment, and well-being of our K9 partners — keeping them healthy, strong, and ready to protect and serve Queen Anne's County.

We’re truly grateful for your partnership, dedication, and commitment to those who serve!

**📢 Did you know? — New Maryland Traffic Laws Effective Oct. 1, 2025**

🚨 Starting **today**, Maryland has rolled out several significant changes to its traffic laws. While Denton is in Maryland, these apply statewide — so we want YOU to be informed and safe on the road.

---

# # # ⚖️ What’s new?

1. **Tiered speed camera fines**
Gone is the flat $40 ticket for speeding caught by camera. Now fines scale depending on how far over the limit you are:
• 12-15 mph over → $40
• 16-19 mph over → $70
• 20-29 mph over → $120
• 30-39 mph over → $230
• 40+ mph over → $425

2. **Reckless driving classification**
Driving **30 mph or more over** the posted limit can now be treated as a *criminal offense* (reckless driving) rather than just a traffic violation.
That means potential fines up to **$1,000**, up to **60 days in Jail.

3. **“Move Over” law expanded**
Drivers are now required, when safe to do so, to move over or slow down for police, fire, EMS vehicles — and this also extends to bicyclists or scooter riders stopped on the roadside.

---

# # # 🚗 What you should do

* Always monitor your speed — especially in areas with cameras.
* Be especially cautious in **zones where speed cameras are more common**, such as school zones.
* Never assume excessive speeding will just result in a ticket — it may now be a criminal charge.
* When you see emergency vehicles, move over or give them space if safe.

---

Your safety — and that of others — is our top priority. We at the Denton Police Department want you to stay informed and avoid unnecessary fines or worse.

If you have questions or see hazardous driving on our roads, feel free to contact us.

**Stay safe, Denton. Let’s drive smart and obey the law.**
