Wrentham School Committee Meets tonight 1/21 at 7 PM, in the Roderick Library.

Being reviewed are changes to the school’s S*x Ed policy.

Swipe for some reminders of Recent History...

The Massachusetts Family Institute (MFI)
MFI is a conservative Christian policy group that provided Paul Lashway with language and consultation for his failed GBI proposal last year.

They provided Bruce Cates (Plainville) on the King Philip School Committee with similar assistance when he proposed changes to the district’s S*x Ed policy.

The Massachusetts Association of School Committees (MASC)
The MASC provides model policies to school committees that are extensively vetted. Their models are developed based on state and federal legislation, and they are aligned with educational best practices. They reduce legal risk to school districts.

Heads up for more MFI policy nonsense at the Wrentham School Committee.

We're decoding more of the dog whistles used by extremists seeking to influence our schools.

This week we're talking about two innocuous seeming catchphrases "Common Sense" and "Back to Basics" They seem harmless, right?

"Common Sense" and "Back to Basics" argue against the incorporation of new curriculum standards (especially history, language arts, and health) that emphasize and value diversity and inclusion. While math, reading, and writing are the core of public education, other programs such as social studies, history, civics, music, SEL (social-emotional learning), and the arts are also important for a balanced education that prepares young people for the future in a diverse world.

The Massachusetts Family Institute and other extreme organizations like Mom's for Liberty speak in catch phrases and dog whistles that can sound benign. We're going to unpack what some of them mean.

This week we're looking at what they mean when they say, "Parents Rights" "Parental Rights" or "Don't Co-parent with the Government"

Extremist parents are demanding that any content they dislike or deem “offensive” be removed from the curriculum for all students. This includes any mentions of LGBTQIA+ people and history, racism, etc. Opt-out options for individual students always have been and continue to be available.

Listen for these phrases and know what they really mean.

Paul Lashway acknowledged on Monday night that his emails broke the Open Meeting Law, further, he acknowledged his collaboration with the Massachusetts Family Institute (MFI). So, what's next?

Well, we were sent this petition calling for his resignation over these issues and we think it deserves consideration.

Tonight is the hearing for the alleged Open Meeting Law Violation. It's an opportunity for accountability and healing, but only if Members Greaney, Clutterbuck, and Lashway treat it as such. After this we'll see what the Massachusetts Attorney General has to say in the matter.

We also have a Linktree with lots of documents we think are helpful to understanding what's going on.
