Talking about cancer can reopen wounds you thought you had already moved past.

When I was going through multiple myeloma, one of the hardest things was not being able to find someone with the same condition whose story I could relate to.

That’s part of why I keep talking about it now. Revisiting those memories isn’t always comfortable, but if sharing what I went through helps somebody else feel a little less alone, it’s worth it.

This clip is from my conversation with Living Well Together Podcast.

Have you ever had to revisit something difficult because you knew your experience could help someone else?

Full conversation is linked in the pinned comment.

When I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, I did what most people probably would do — I went straight to Google.

What I found scared me.

I had a young daughter, and one of the thoughts running through my head was, “I might be on a time limit here.”

I later learned that some of the survival information I had found was outdated, but that fear was very real at the time.

I recently sat down with Living Well Together: Big Life in a Small Town for one of the most personal conversations I’ve shared publicly.

We talked about my cancer diagnosis, months of chemotherapy, my stem cell transplant, becoming a full-time dad, navigating a custody battle, dealing with mental health struggles, and how those experiences eventually became my memoir, Rise Anyway.

But probably the biggest thing I wanted people to take from the conversation is this:

Hard seasons can convince you that life is always going to feel the way it feels right now.

It won’t.

There’s always a bounce-back period.

If you watch it, come back and tell me what part of the conversation stood out to you most.

And if you know somebody going through a difficult season right now, feel free to share this with them.

The official iHeart episode is now live.

I was fighting cancer and a custody battle at the same time.

While undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma, my greatest fear wasn’t only what might happen to me—it was whether I would still be here to raise my daughter.

I opened up about that chapter of my life with Dave Alexander on Miami Valley View, including how fatherhood gave me a reason to keep going and inspired Rise Anyway.

I’m grateful to be featured in The Writer’s Workout Indie Author Spotlight—and invited back for a second interview about Rise Anyway: A Memoir of Survival.

In these conversations, I shared more about surviving cancer, raising my daughter, navigating mental-health challenges, and turning some of the hardest chapters of my life into a message of perseverance.

Rise Anyway is a reminder that pain may become part of our story, but it does not have to decide how that story ends.

Thank you to Jennifer Martin and The Writer’s Workout for giving independent authors a space to share the experiences behind their work.

No matter what life puts in front of you, keep going.

Rise anyway.

We did a second interview with Brice Davis after our Indie Author Spotlight!

WHIO shared a little more of my story.

Five years ago, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma while raising my daughter, Rarity. The journey included chemotherapy, countless appointments, and a stem cell transplant—but it also inspired me to write Rise Anyway.

I’m grateful to WHIO for helping share this message, and to everyone who has supported Rarity and me along the way.

No matter what life puts in front of you, keep going.

Rise anyway.

He underwent chemotherapy treatments, numerous doctor appointments, and a stem cell transplant while balancing his responsibilities as a full-time parent.

This moment means a lot to me.

The Dayton Daily News featured my book, *Rise Anyway: A Memoir of Survival, Fatherhood, and Becoming*.

I wrote *Rise Anyway* for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed, counted out, or unsure how to keep moving forward. My hope is that sharing my story helps someone else find the strength to keep going through their own struggles.

Thank you, Dayton Daily News, for helping this message reach more people—and thank you to everyone who continues to support me and this journey.

Cancer wasn't the hardest part.

Fighting for custody of my daughter while going through chemotherapy was.

There were days I went from chemotherapy appointments to legal paperwork, wondering how I was supposed to keep moving forward while trying to be the father my daughter deserved.

Recently, I sat down with Greg Imgn Jankowski on the IMAGiNE FiTTiNG IN™ Podcast for one of the most personal conversations I've ever had publicly.

We talked about multiple myeloma, fatherhood, anxiety, resilience, and the story behind my memoir, Rise Anyway.

One thing I shared during the interview captures exactly why I wrote the book:

"I didn't write this book to tell people I won. I wrote it from the perspective of someone still fighting the battle."

A huge thank you to Greg Alan Jankowski and the IMAGiNE FiTTiNG IN™ Podcast for creating such a thoughtful conversation and giving me the opportunity to share my story.

If you've followed my journey, I'd truly appreciate you taking the time to watch the interview.

A sincere thank you to Vick Mickunas and everyone at WYSO for welcoming me and allowing me to share my story.
