We knew this round of bargaining would be extremely difficult, given the current budget issues. However, because of the significant budget shortfall, we were hoping to gain more robust contract language regarding our working conditions. But that does not appear to be an option with the current administration.
The current administration, through their OFM bargaining team, continues to offer NOTHING. Yes, you read that correctly, they are offering NOTHING!
In fact, they continue to show zero respect for us or for the vital services that YOU provide to Washingtonians every day.

Day 4 has ended. We have reviewed, discussed and voted on dozens of resolutions. AFSCME Council 28 WFSE has the most amazing members who are willing and unafraid to step up to the microphone (in front of 4000+ people) and speak their opinions.

WFSE C28 also made it in the top 10 for PEOPLE members and donations!

Individuals whose homes were significantly damaged or destroyed by recent wildfires in Central and Eastern Washington can now apply for state assistance to help with immediate needs such as temporary housing, food and minor repairs.

Save the date!

Our statewide walkouts on August 31 will not be the end of our actions if our employers continue to refuse meaningful improvements at the bargaining table.

It will be the beginning of further escalation, starting with an action September 5 in Olympia.

Would we rather be having a BBQ for the long weekend? Yes.

But the reason we have a long weeked on Labor Day (or any weekend, actually) is because workers organized, spoke up, and refused to accept things the way they were.

And today, we are refusing to accept things the way they are.

Labor Day is about our right to sit with our employers as equals to come to an agreement on the things that matter most — our safety on the job, our pay, our benefits.

It's a right around 90 percent of workers in this country don't have.

So while our employers are relaxing poolside and enjoying the fruits of our labor, we'll be demanding better for everybody — patients, students, Washingtonians, workers — whether they're covered by our contract or not.
