Time to add some hiking yogi 😌 in before I am about to post a lot of Dancing Fergie. 🕺🏻
One of my favorite times to be outside is when the sun is setting in the summer. The constant change of colors in the sky, the chorus of critters singing their summer song, and the transition between day and night. I also enjoy when the moon shows herself as a guiding light after the sun has set. It’s one of my favorite forms of entertainment and there are never any reruns. It’s always its own unique show. 🤩
Before I started dancing I’d get at least 4 or 5 of these moments a week. I’d either be out hiking until the sun went down or make sure to get out to a local sunset spot for an evening constitutional.
Fortunately I’ve had easy access for such occasions the past three place I’ve lived. You don’t really need an amazing overlook to experience it. I’ve found having a nice meadow or lake with a wooded backdrop works perfectly for sunsets.
My newest sunset spot is Sharon Woods Metropark. One of my favorite parts of many of Columbus & Franklin County Metro Parks is that they stay open until 10pm over the summer months. This gives you plenty of time to enjoy the transition before you have to leave the park. Most of their trails are also gravel which stands out in the dark woods with no need for a headlamp.
While I no longer get the heavy dose of sunsets now that I dance most evenings, I make sure to still get one or two in a week.
Do you have a nice sunset spot near you?
