This year we celebrated the life of Sal at the Rapaglia Supercup. In the morning, all 6 clubs in this year’s tournament gathered for a moment of silence and a brief reminder of Sal’s achievements. Decades ago, it was very difficult to find a proper venue to practice and play soccer in NYC, but thanks to Sal Rapaglia’s constant advocacy with city and state officials, it’s possible to find a quality turf field within reasonable transit and walking distance across the 5 boroughs. His most proud achievement was Verrazano Sports Complex near Coney Island. During his 40 year tenure of Eastern NY Soccer, he emphasized the importance of making soccer accessible for all ethnic communities, which is why not every field is aggressively fenced off like in other municipalities. Under his leadership, ENY helped united many of the various different ethnic soccer leagues under one unified banner. The cup was named after him during his lifetime, and we were fortunate to have him in attendance one more time last year. He passed away in April, with various tributes from the different bodies of USASA, US Soccer, and FIFA, and his legacy was honored with a great edition of his cup this year. R.I.P. Sal.

- The NY Intermediate (Gaelic) Football Final between Rockland and Shannon Gaels take place tonight! Shannon Gaels will look to upset #1 Rockland to promote to Senior Football after falling short in last year's final.
-NY Braveheart kick off their regional title defense at home against East Coast FC
-The Rapaglia Supercup returns with the champions of the different affiliated leagues and cups in ENYSSA.

The New York Senior Hurling Final is on tomorrow where Johnny Glynn’s Hoboken Guards look to re-establish dominance in New York after an absence in the finals the past 3 seasons. Interestingly enough it’s not Glynn looking to end a 29 year drought, but rather Westmeath NY, a 2nd consecutive finals appearance to win their first Senior Hurling Championship since 1996, the first for Nugent’s Men in the “Bronx Warriors” era. At the time of his passing, he was living alone with no blood relatives alive. His main contact and social experience was communicating with the community via blogging and various events across Yonkers we would see him.
