Immigrants are welcome here in Maine. 🦞❤️

New beginnings are rarely easy.

Here in Maine, we hold space for the simple things—watching the sun rise over the ocean, savoring hot mugs of coffee together, breathing the fresh air.

If you have come here to build a life, you are welcome.
There is room for you here. This is what shared home feels like.

Do you know why Black History Month is in February?

"Carter G. Woodson chose February for reasons of tradition and reform. It is commonly said that Woodson selected February to encompass the birthdays of two great Americans who played a prominent role in shaping black history, namely Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, whose birthdays are the 12th and the 14th, respectively. More importantly, he chose them for reasons of tradition. Since Lincoln's assassination in 1865, the black community, along with other Republicans, had been celebrating the fallen President's birthday. And since the late 1890s, black communities across the country had been celebrating Douglass'. Well aware of the preexisting celebrations, Woodson built Negro History Week around traditional days of commemorating the black past. He was asking the public to extend their study of black history, not to create a new tradition. In doing so, he increased his chances for success."

You are the people we are waiting for.

When institutions wobble and the noise gets loud, mission-driven organizations become the steady ground. This is not the moment to go quiet—or scatter. It’s the moment to clarify your message, stand visibly in your values, and invite your community into action.

At 16 Hoops, we help nonprofits cut through the chaos with focused strategy and clear storytelling—so your work is seen, understood, and supported when it matters most.

Why am I obsessed with flamingoes lately?

Because the natural world is full of surprises if you’re paying attention.

Flamingos are bold without trying. Their color isn’t decoration—it’s biology. Their grace isn’t polished—it’s practiced. They’re elegant and awkward, strong and social, quietly resilient and a little bit ridiculous. And they don’t apologize for any of it.

That’s what drew me to them as I refreshed the 16 Hoops brand. Nature rarely chooses subtlety over truth. Flamingos remind me that beauty can be unexpected, that community matters, and that standing out doesn’t require performing—just being fully yourself.

So yes, they’ve landed on my website. Placed boldy into the contact area like a fun wink. A reminder that the best brands, like the natural world, are at their strongest when they’re expressive, grounded, and authentic by design.

Hazy Shades of Winter...

Here in Maine, I'm inspired by the soft pink & blue hues of Winter at dawn, comfy cable knit sweaters with twinkle lights, and hints Spring waiting patiently under the snow.
