APPLICATIONS CLOSE SUNDAY APRIL 17th at MIDNIGHT!

There are links in my bio to the application and the film I made.

When Jordan Cannon () was chosen to mentor Patrick Dunn () in the SCARPA Athlete Mentorship Initiative, neither one of them knew exactly what would come out of it. Throughout the year of the program, they both quickly realized how everyone needs a mentor for different aspects of life. Watch this film by Samuel Crossley (that’s me!) to learn more about how they positively impacted each other, and their community.

If you know someone who would be interested in the SAMI program, please encourage them to apply! Applications close at midnight on Sunday, April 17th!

Been waiting to see this film for a while! “An Accidental Life” premieres 2/22 at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. It's rousing (and intimidating) for this intimate portrait of my life, post spinal cord injury, to see the light of day. The first two years after my injury, I gasped tuneless and shallow breaths, suffocating through the traumatic change.

The film is intended to be a well-needed sigh for all of us. Inspiration, you say. I say a full breath reminding us of mindful human intentions and heart filled capacity. I am not unique. I am just another human. I hope this deep view into my shattered spine, yet complete human spirit, inspires us all to the miracles we have yet to create, moreso furthering spinal cord research and shedding some light on this club with an open enrollment." -Quinn Brett (An Accidental Life)

The Vertical Life Film Tour is back for the second year, kicking off in mid-November! Native people have used “good fire” to manage land and prevent destructive wildfires for over 13,000 years.

All over the world, tribes learn from and contribute to traditional ecological knowledge, or TEK, which includes the idea of small intentional burning. This can “renew local food, medicinal and cultural resources, create habitat for animals, and reduce the risk of larger, more dangerous wild fires.” (The Guardian) For almost a century, the US government considered fire the enemy - a dangerous, destructive element to suppress and exclude from the land, and even outlawed intentional burns before recently recognizing their value.

Here are some words from a letter I found placed on a parked car’s windshield near were this burn was planned: Yosemite National Park Fire Crews are conducting a 439-acre prescribed burn in Yosemite Valley this week as part of the Yosemite Valley Parkwide Prescribed Fire Plan which encompasses 12,114 acres. Deputy Fire Management Officer Kelly Singer stated, "conducting fuels treatment in this area will reduce heavy accumulation of dead and down fuels." This burn is focused east of El Capitan but smoke can linger in the valley for one to two weeks. For air quality information, please visit: Yosemite Air Quality Page or airnow.gov
