Through the years, as this band formed from me (Billy) answering a flyer from New York music in 1999, till the summer of 2010, we were ride-or-die musical soulmates. We had different guitar players for a short time sometimes, but Drew, Heather Jurina, and I remained in a bond of growing musically, and growing pains as life smacks ya upside the head. Jay Miller found a home with us, and that was the G unit, like a puzzle waiting for that last piece, and he was the final stop on the axe. I look at these pictures that cover around 11 years and see we grew up together pretty much in different basement practice spots, through many stages.
So many miles driving, so many hours practicing, grueling days of studio sessions, sleeping in another city most of the time. It's hard work, frustrating at times, and very rewarding most of the time because we created our own sound, our own songs, no matter if ya get famous and do this for a living or not, the fact remains to be an original band starting in a dingy basement or garage y'all built something that NO ONE before or after can make. It's yours, it's a commitment, a relationship, and it takes love and tolerance, and screaming and cussing each other out sometimes, but a band that stuck together this long forms friendships that no matter how many years down the road we all keep in touch.
I, I for one, am on the sidelines rooting my family on as they continue their music careers, just too much tale. It was around and got to watch evolve. Honestly, played with the best musicians I will ever meet. Why? because we got to that level that opening for national recording artists became like hanging out with new musicians from another city. We earned our respect. The best part is knowing that, but now seeing 16 years later and releasing re masters of songs that are over 25 yrs old getting plays, reviews, and I get emails from different companies asking bout this, that,t and the other...Just to know that the music is timeless cuz the recordings that are "outdated" to today's standards are still so raw and real that people who we distribute it to love it and write real reviews and thoughts on the songs. I keep reading a similar tone of EAL, RAW, unfiltered, not overproduced, need the grunge era of this type of REAL music back, that it makes me think what the hell happened in the meantime that fans are "sick" of fake fabricated music?? Is that what happened?? i don't know i was away even present for long time, and i though every band poured there heart and soul into music cuz it is a release for us, it just so happens that we would play live on stage and earn some fans who felt exactly what we was droppin that night, but it was for us, a get away, theraputic chin musik that when practice was over if your ears wasn't ringing, sweatin, and wore out then ya didn't come down to a tilt practyice cuz we needed it. I need it still, and I am grateful for it. Whether y'all reading this have seen us play, or are a fan of our style and sound, or not, is irrelevant for what we built and accomplished on our own.
I definitely still write and record mainly now, since the Dempsey hiatus, but it's therapy, and it takes a hell of a lot for 4 strangers that love to play instruments, to get together, build a brand and business, and put out OG material that is your own and is your mark in the dash, your personal legacy and accomplishment that NOT a single soul can take away. It's all experience for something else, it's all 'Moments to Memories.'
