10 years ago, when I was still running a film and video production company, my team and I tested out a new camera and jib arm with the help of the incomparable Courtney Waskin of Ms Waskin and The Radio.

We did a second test with the EZ Jib and Canon C300. This time, in addition to our Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens, we rented a Canon 16-35mm lens from Clev...

My favorite Halloween read! (Well, possibly tied with Something Wicked This Way Comes.) A NIGHT IN LONESOME OCTOBER is narrated by an animal familiar, S***f the dog, as he works to save the world from supernatural end times, alongside a collection of gothic monsters and Universal characters. In fact, nearly all the main characters are animal familiars (cats, rats, birds, etc). It’s not a brutal book, but full disclosure: it’s possible not every familiar might make it to the end. And wonderfully, the book is divided into 31 chapters corresponding to the days of the month. I read it one chapter a day so the climax occurs in real time on Halloween.

Black Cherry Blues by James Lee Burke (1990), winner of the Edgar award and probably the book I have recommended more to people than any other. Few authors capture loneliness, longing, grief, or guilt like Burke, or wrap it in such melodious prose. Or create characters who struggle so hard, yet so often fail, to do the right thing.

What Craig said!

I primarily sell used books, so I like it when people bring me used books to resell, with one exception.

Although it doesn't happen very often, I'm always feel a little sad when somebody trades in a Christopher Barzak book because it means that they can't take it off their shelf whenever they want, they can't loan it to a friend and they can't re-read it at their leisure.

You should, and I'm not just saying this because he was on an episode of with me and the incomparable Eric Harper, OWN every one of this Youngstown author's books.

You can start with "Monstrous Alterations". A wild collection of short stories where fairy tales, gothic narratives and classic monster stories are transformed into new wonders.
