Badlands
Song by
Bruce Springsteen

Lights out tonight, trouble in the heartland
Got a head-on collision smashin' in my guts, man
I'm caught in a crossfire that I don't understand
But there's one thing I know for sure
I don't give a damn for the same old played-out scenes

I don't give a damn for just the in-betweens
Honey, I want the heart, I want the soul
I want control right now

Talk about a dream, try to make it real
Wake up in the night with a fear so real
Spend your life waiting for a moment
That just don't come
Don't waste your time waiting

Badlands, you gotta live it every day
Let the broken hearts stand as the price you've gotta pay
Keep pushin' 'til it's understood
These badlands start treatin' us good
(Badlands)

Workin' in the fields 'til you get your back burned
Workin' 'neath the wheels 'til you get your facts learned
Baby, I got my facts learned real good right now
You better get it straight, darling

Poor man wanna be rich, rich man wanna be king
And a king ain't satisfied 'til he rules everything
I wanna go out tonight
I wanna find out what I got

Well, I believe in the love that you gave me
I believe in the faith that could save me
I believe in the hope and I pray
That someday it may raise me above these

Badlands, you gotta live it every day
Let the broken hearts stand as the price you've gotta pay
Keep pushin' 'til it's understood
And these badlands start treatin' us good
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh, come on)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh, come on)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh, come on)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)

For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive
I wanna find one face that ain't lookin' through me
I wanna find one place
I wanna spit in the face of these

Badlands, you gotta live it every day
Let the broken hearts stand as the price you've gotta pay
Keep pushin' 'til it's understood
And these badlands start treatin' us good

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Badlands
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Badlands
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Badlands
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Bandlands
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa

Don't Dream It's Over
Song by
Crowded House

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road while you're travelling with me

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know, they won't win

Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion, but there's no proof
In the paper today, tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the TV page

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know, they won't win

Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead, barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and release

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
You know, they won't win

Don't let them win (hey now, hey now)
Hey now, hey now
Hey now, hey now
Don't let them win (they come, they come)
Don't let them win (hey now, hey now), yeah
Hey now, hey now
Hey

Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night

By Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

O Captain! My Captain!

By Walt Whitman

O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

"I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately...I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life! To put to rout all that was not life...And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived..." Henry David Thoreau

“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.” Walt Whitman

From his seat of power, Kennedy tells us: “When power leads men towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man’s concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.” https://www.facebook.com/reel/2105532916896781
