🎙️ What’s Up Yuma Radio — today’s show was a good one with Carmen Márquez and Nolan Hare.

Carmen Márquez is a Yuma native who’s built an incredible career in journalism as an anchor and reporter for NBC/Telemundo Los Angeles, covering major stories and giving a voice to migrant and Latino communities across the U.S. We followed her journey from Yuma to Mexico to Phoenix to LA and back home again, talking about what she’s learned along the way, the documentary work she’s doing now focused on Latino health, and the impact of telling stories that actually matter. She’s also the voice behind commercials for Verizon, Cricket Wireless, and more — so chances are you’ve heard her even if you didn’t know it.

Nolan Hare joined us too and brought the behind-the-scenes world of live music and event production to life. Nolan has spent over two decades as a musician, live sound engineer, and producer, founding Nolan Hare Productions and touring with Brewer’s Grade Band while helping build festivals and community events that turned his hometown in Oregon into a true live music destination. Now he’s here in Arizona helping lead operations and entertainment at Naked Dates / High Tanks Brewing in Wellton, and we talked about what it takes to build great live shows, strong venues, and a real music culture people want to be part of.

🎙️ What’s Up Yuma Radio — on today’s show, we got real about growth, healing and taking care of yourself from the inside out.

💪🏼 We were joined first by Nichole Roedder, Yuma local and personal trainer at Healthy Her Fitness Club. Nichole shared her powerful story of transformation after leaving an abusive relationship, what rebuilding truly looked like, and how faith helped her step into a new chapter rooted in strength, self-worth and purpose. Her message was simple but big: no matter your past, you can start over and become stronger than you ever thought possible.

☕️ We were also joined by Martha Huizar, M.S., RDN, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, college instructor and community advocate who believes healthy living should be practical, joyful and shared. Martha talked about real-life nutrition that actually works, how food can bring people together and the story behind her local coffee business, Colorado River Valley Roasters, built around connection, community and that perfect cafecito moment.

🎙️ What’s Up Yuma Radio — on today’s show, things really lit up. 💡

💡 We were joined first by Gloria DeAnda, co-owner of Arizona Lighting Company of Yuma, along with her daughter Jovani Ford. Gloria talked about opening the business in 1985, stepping into ownership in the early 2000s and how personalized service and real expertise have kept the showroom a trusted part of Yuma for decades.

🐾 We were also joined by Nicole Millis, owner and creator of Kiwi’s Distinguished Pet Goods. Nicole shared her journey from New York to Yuma, how mentorship from Serena, owner of Rebel & Rove, helped her find her path, and how that support led her to open Kiwi’s, a holistic pet shop focused on health, nutrition, enrichment and pet clothing with her own unique style.

Chapel Goes Missing: A Beloved Yuma Landmark Quietly Disappears

YUMA — If you’ve driven Highway 95 over the years, chances are you noticed the small white chapel inviting travelers to “Pause • Rest • Worship.” Now, it’s gone.

Loren Pratt’s Little Chapel, built in 1995 by Loren Pratt as a memorial to his late wife Lois, was recently removed after the lease on the land where it stood expired. Though small in size, the chapel became a big part of Yuma’s roadside identity and community memory.

For three decades, locals and visitors stopped to pray, reflect, or simply take a moment of peace. Many families took photos there, and several couples even used the chapel as a backdrop for engagement and wedding pictures. Despite not being centuries old, the chapel became a staple of Yuma life, a symbol of love, loss, and quiet connection.

Its removal has sparked an outpouring of nostalgia online, with residents sharing memories of pulling over just to sit inside, honor loved ones, or explain to out-of-town guests why that tiny chapel mattered so much.

Now the big question remains: is this the end of the story?

There’s a growing rumor that the chapel could reappear at Grove 95, though nothing has been confirmed. Will it find a new home? Will it rise again? Or will it live on only through photos and memories?

If you have stories, photos, or information about the chapel’s future, What’s Up Yuma wants to hear from you.
