Pictured: Our namesake, Dr. Inez Beverly Prosser. She was the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in psychology in the United States. Her dissertation was on The Non-Academic Development of Negro Children in Mixed and Segregated Schools. In 1933, she received her Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Cincinnati and was featured on the cover of The Crisis, the official magazine of the NAACP. Dr. Prosser’s work focused on the mental health and educational advancement of Black students and the effects of racism on Black students.
