REPORTERS SOUGHT FOR GOODHUE AND WANAMINGO MEETINGS

People should be informed of the activities of elected school and city officials in the area. It has been many years since the News-Record has had a resident of Goodhue or Wanamingo covering school and city meetings in those cities. We encourage people in those cities who are interested in local events to apply for a position.

• The Wanamingo City Council meets on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m.
• The Kenyon-Wanamingo School Board meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in Kenyon.
• The Goodhue School Board meets on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
• The Goodhue City Council meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 6 p.m.
Feature story writers are also needed. These are human-interest stories on such things a business openings/sales/closings, anniversaries of organizations, significant achievements by local people, profiles of people doing interesting things, coverage of speakers, and more. We also need reporters who can stop by local events to gather information and take photos.
News-Record reporters work from home and submit their stories by email. Previous reporting experience is not necessary.
If interested, please call 507-732-7617 or email news@ zumbrota.com. The News-Record office is located at 225 Main Street, Zumbrota. Peter Grimsrud is the publisher.

The Zumbrota Area Historical Society hosted a Garden Tour on Saturday, July 19. Six gardens were available for touring. Shaunte Goad’s cottage garden is in full bloom with a mix of black-eyed Susan, Shasta daisy, daylily, and native prairie plants – cardinal flower, loved by hummingbirds, and the monarch butterfly-attracting blazing star liatris. Goad is wearing one of the garden aprons that she sews that have handy pockets for gardening tools and seed packets. She also makes the terracotta outdoor pots shown here. For more photos from the tour, see the print or e-edition of the July 30, 2025, News-Record.

Grimsruds have published area newspapers since 1946

The News-Record is the legal newspaper for the cities of Goodhue, Mazeppa, Pine Island, Oronoco, Wanamingo, and Zumbrota; in addition to covering Goodhue, KW, PI, and ZM schools.

Peter (publisher) and Matt (editor) Grimsrud are the third generation to publish the newspaper since A.T. Grimsrud first purchased the Zumbrota News in 1946. David Grimsrud purchased the Zumbrota News in 1981 and the Mazeppa Journal, Goodhue County Tribune, Pine Island Record, and Wanamingo Progress in 1989. The five newspapers were combined into one publication, News-Record, in 1993.

The Zumbro Shopper is a second publication inserted into the News-Record and blanket covers the Zumbro Valley / Highway 52 growth corridor. It reaches all city and rural box holders in Goodhue, Kenyon, Mazeppa, Pine Island, Nerstrand, Wanamingo, West Concord, and Zumbrota.
