SAVE THIS FOR YOUR TASHKENT METRO TOUR ⚡🐳
I spent half a day underground just to check if the hype was real. It was.
The Tashkent metro opened on November 6, 1977 - the first metro system in all of Central Asia 🔔 For decades, taking photos inside was actually forbidden. The ban was only lifted in 2018, which is honestly wild considering some of these stations look like actual palaces.
And here’s a fresh detail: in July 2026, Kosmonavtlar officially joined the UNESCO World Heritage List, alongside nine other landmarks of Tashkent’s modernist architecture 🧡 A subway station recognized by UNESCO - that alone tells you this isn’t your average metro ride.
Kosmonavtlar, O’zbekiston, Alisher Navoiy - each one tells a different story through its design, from Soviet space history to the country’s cotton legacy to Uzbek poetry. I didn’t expect a subway system to hit me emotionally, but here we are 💛 🇺🇿
Good to know before you go:
📍 Electronic fare (card/NFC) - 1,700 UZS | paper ticket (QR-code) - 3,000 UZS
📍 Runs daily 5:00 AM-12:00 AM
📍 No direct metro line to the airport - grab a taxi or Yandex Go instead
📍 Start with Kosmonavtlar and Alisher Navoiy if you’re short on time
