🎵 Beatles Song of the Day: “Eleanor Rigby” (1966)

Released with Revolver, “Eleanor Rigby” was unlike anything else in pop: just Paul’s vocals, string octet, and a haunting story about two lonely lives crossing paths too late.

🎻 No guitars. No drums. Just raw, poetic despair — and a chorus of perfect Beatles harmony.

“She picks up the rice… lives in a dream.”
“No one was saved.”
“What does he care?”

Paul wrote it like a short story, inspired by solitary older women he’d known growing up. He invented Eleanor and Father McKenzie… but fans still visit real gravestones in Woolton, Liverpool with those very names. Coincidence? Maybe. But eerie, all the same.
