LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR ROACH
MOURNS THE PASSING OF BISHOP HERBERT A. BEVARD

I join a deeply saddened Virgin Islands community in mourning the passing of Bishop Herbert A. Bevard, retired Bishop of the Diocese of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. He was a humble and faithful servant of the Clergy, Religious, Laity and the entire Virgin Islands community.

Having known Bishop Bevard personally, I honor his memory and his sacred leadership of the Church in the Virgin Islands. He led his flock with kindness and compassion, and will be remembered for his stewardship of the Church, and, as well, his caring ways. During his tenure, Bishop Bevard was responsible a lot of the improvements of the Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral, which are still notable today.

The Virgin Islands is grateful because Bishop Bevard chose us as his spiritual home, a place which grew with him, as he led so many in divine worship and in the love of God. I offer a prayer for comfort and for God’s grace to the Diocese and to all the members of his family, friends, and loved ones, as we all share in this great loss.

May he rest in glory.

Most. Rev. Herbert A. Bevard, retired Bishop of St Thomas in the Virgin Islands, passed on to eternity on Saturday, September 20, 2025. He will be laid to rest on Friday, September 26, 2025 in Philadelphia.

It is with sadness and profound faith in the Risen Christ, Most Reverend Jerome Feudjio, Bishop of Diocese of St Thomas USVI , announces that Most Reverend Herbert Armstrong Bevard Bishop Emeritus of Diocese of St Thomas USVI, Passed away last night September 20,2025. Bishop Emeritus Bevard, a beloved spiritual leader, born on February 24, 1946 and dedicated his life to the service of God and his community, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those around him. He was ordained on May 20, 1972 in Archdiocese of Philadelphia, was installed as the Fifth Bishop of St. Thomas VI on September 3, 2008 and retired September 18, 2020.
