The restaurant we really didn’t want to like this much.

If you remember Joe’s Rum Hut in Cruz Bay, you’ll probably understand why.

We LOVED that place. The laid-back vibe, sunset views, and those braised short ribs kept us coming back trip after trip. So when it closed and eventually became Karma Beach Lounge, we were a little salty about it. 🤣

Then Karma opened in 2025…and we started seeing some pretty mixed reviews.

So naturally, we waited.

We finally decided to give it a try in October 2025, fully prepared for it to be one-and-done.

Well…we were wrong.

Since that first visit, we’ve been back every time we visit St. John for lunch, dinner, drinks, and sometimes simply because we start craving their sushi.

And now? It’s genuinely become one of our favorite places to eat in Cruz Bay.

We love the sushi, the waterfront setting is hard to beat, and it still gives us that relaxed “we’re on St. John” feeling we loved so much about this spot before.

Do we still miss Joe’s Rum Hut? Absolutely.

But we also have to give Karma credit for winning over two people who were pretty determined not to like it. 😂

And that’s exactly why we always say: reviews can be helpful, but sometimes you just have to try a place for yourself.

One of the reasons we love visiting the Virgin Islands so much is because Island hopping to multiple islands is really easy to do and is a lot of FUN too!🏝️🚤

✨Our prefer method when we’re with a group of friends is by private day charter. You can visit several different islands in a 8 hr day and you have control with the itinerary.

🛥️If it’s just 2 of you or you’re looking for a more budget friendly option, you can also go by ferry service providers or a shared day charter company. You’re definitely more restricted with this option but it’s still a fun way to visit another nearby island.

➡️Just know you have to clear customs if you’re going from USVI to BVI or vise versa and will need a passport. 😉

Everyone talks about the Jost Van D**e, Tortola and Virgin Gorda…and somehow, so many people visit the BVI’s and completely miss one of the best islands of them all. 💯

Anegada just feels different! 🏝️

It’s quieter. Flatter. A little more untouched. The water is ridiculously blue, the beaches seem to go on forever, and it has this laid-back, almost “where did everybody go?” feeling that we absolutely love.

And maybe that’s exactly why it gets skipped.

It takes a little more effort to get there — but for us, that’s part of what makes it so special.

After visiting several of the British Virgin Islands, Anegada is still our favorite one of them all. ❤️

Don’t make these 3 rookie mistakes planning your first trip to St. John, USVI. 🫣

✅ Do these 3 things instead
1. Plan well in advance for the best accommodation options. We recommend 6-12 months in advance especially during peak season. Also, reserve your jeep rental when you secure your accommodations. Make fine dining dinner reservations 1-2 months before your trip.

2. Respect the local West Indian culture and laid back vibe of St. John. Women should wear a cover up over their swimsuit and Men should not walk around shirtless when walking through town, or entering an establishment. Show common courtesy by not blasting your music at the beach or set your tent up in front of someone that was there before you.

3. Be at St. Thomas airport 3 hrs before your flight especially during peak season and if you don’t have global entry. Nothing worse than ending a relaxing vacation on St. John by rushing or stressing and possibly missing your flight home. (Insider tip: Use private transportation to get you to the airport faster. We love Perez and Freddy Exclusive Limousine Services) 😉

There’s a weird guilt that can come with this stage of life—when the kids are grown, you don’t have grandchildren yet and you finally have a little more freedom to start doing things YOU want to do. 🤔

We can be incredibly grateful for the years we spent raising our families and be excited about this chapter too. ❤️

So I’m curious…What’s the one thing you still really want to do in this chapter of your life? For me, it’s checking places off my bucket list! ✈️
