Houtong & Shifen, Taiwan 🇹🇼 📍 🗺️

Escaping Taipei’s relentless pace, we headed to Houtong Cat Village, tucked away in the mountains. A few train rides later, we were stepping into a place that felt like a different world—quieter, greener, and yes, overrun with cats.

Houtong’s got its quirks. The village is literally named after its abundance of cats, and they're everywhere—from the walkways to the cafés, all decked out in cat paraphernalia. It’s an oddity, but charming in its own right, especially for a couple of cat lovers like us.

It's not your typical tourist spot; the place feels a bit lost in time, enveloped by the jungle, but there's a certain calm here that the city lacks. We caught up with our friend Jacob, enjoying the slower pace together.

After saying goodbye to Jacob, the allure of those old mountain trains pulled us back a few days later to explore more of the region. We ventured to Shifen, another quiet spot known for its scenic paths, river views, and remnants of old mining tracks. Like Houtong, Shifen offers a break from the typical city sights—a place to breathe a bit easier.

These spots in northern Taiwan gave us a different taste of the island, away from the usual hustle. It was a welcome change of pace, showing us a more laid-back side of Taiwan.

In the tale of our Korean adventure, there’s one subplot that stands out, equal parts admiration and cheeky romance.... 😍

Sheri’s unabashed love affair with Ma Dong-Seok, or as the West might know him, Don Lee. A man whose biceps are as legendary as his acting chops, and whose presence graces countless Korean advertisements. 🇰🇷 💪🏼🏋🏼‍♀️

For three weeks, the hunt was on, Sheri had a mission: to find every Don Lee advert in existence. Picture this—her eyes lighting up at every convenience store, every subway station, as she searched for that familiar, rugged face. Each encounter was an event—a photo op where she’d pose beside him, imagining a smooch that could rival any K-drama kiss 😘💋

Don Lee, the actor known for his roles in 'Train to Busan' and 'The Outlaws', is more than just a screen presence. He’s a national treasure, a symbol of strength and charisma. But for Sheri, he’s a muse, a dream, a crush that turned our travelogue into a romantic comedy. ✨✨✨

We didn’t find as many ads as we’d hoped, but the ones we did were cherished. Each discovery was a victory, a testament to Sheri’s dedication. And while we may not have tracked down every single one, the journey was filled with laughter, love, and just the right amount of fan-girling 💌💌

Here’s to Don Lee, the unlikely hero of our Korean saga, and to Sheri, whose love made this trip all the more memorable.

Seoul, South Korea 🇰🇷 📍

After a memorable stint in Busan, we circled back to the electric pulse of Seoul, landing in the familiar streets of Sookmyung, a stone's throw from Seoul Station. It felt like coming home—back to where our South Korean odyssey first kicked off over a year ago.

This final week in Seoul was nothing short of spectacular, packed with the kind of mayhem only this city can brew. We dove headfirst into the frenzied spectacle of a Korean baseball game, where the crowd’s energy rivaled the neon lights of the city. Cheering, jeering, and beer-sloshing camaraderie—it was chaos at its most joyous.

We wandered the majestic halls and grounds of Gyeongbukgung Palace, steeped in the kind of deep history that you can only feel in your bones in a place like this. And the food—oh, the food. We indulged in an endless parade of Korean culinary delights, each dish a reminder of why Seoul’s food scene captures hearts.

As we wrap up our Korean journey, this week has been a perfect bookmark to our adventures here. But the road calls, and our next post will find us in another country, chasing new stories.

Tallinn, Estonia 🇪🇪📍🗺️

As we draw the curtain on the 'three stray cats' saga, our final act takes place in the mystic, medieval cityscape of Tallinn, Estonia. This isn't just a wrap on our travels with Luke; it's the grand finale of our European tour, a tour that’s tasted every flavor from Istanbul to the Baltic Sea.

Tallinn is less a destination and more an experience, steeped in a history so thick you can feel it in the air. Here, brutalist structures loom over the coastline like remnants of a forgotten war, while ex-communist prisons murmur secrets into the chill Baltic winds. The town squares are more than picturesque—they're a time machine, echoing the bustle of medieval market days, complete with the bizarre folklore of the Devil’s Wedding. It's all an intoxicating mix of the past clashing with the present.

This city, with its cobblestone streets and shadowy alleyways, was the perfect backdrop for our last dance with Luke before we turn the page. Stay tuned—our Tallinn escapade hits YouTube next week, packed with all the cold beauty and stark tales that only a place like Estonia can muster.

Our whirlwind catch-up brings us next to the vibrant streets of Riga, Latvia..

Riga caught us by surprise; it's a city that dances to its own rhythm, distinctly different from Vilnius and steeped in its unique allure. Bridgette joined us for this leg, adding an extra spark to our explorations. Over five nights, we dove into the heart of Latvia's capital, from its historic old town to the buzzing, modern streets where we were staying.

Our timing was serendipitous, stumbling upon a lively beer festival that showcased the best local brews—a testament to Riga’s burgeoning craft scene. The city's culinary prowess was on full display at Crazydogs, where the hotdogs are a local legend in their own right, masterfully crafted and utterly satisfying.

We wandered through Riga's splendid parks and hunted down its historic architectural gems, each site narrating a piece of Latvia’s complex tapestry. The real treasure, however, was an underground former cellar turned into a folk pub. Here, the pints flowed as freely as the stories, with a Friday night party that felt like it could have stepped straight out of folklore.

Riga, you were a revelation—full of surprises, brimming with life, and a reminder of why we travel. Join us for more tales from the road, as we slowly bring you up to speed with our journey.
