Here are some of my favorite parts of our 1906 quadplex renovation on Salisbury NC. Boarded up, waterlogged, and forgotten—this old house had been called “too far gone” more times than we could count. But behind every rotted beam and cracked plaster wall, we saw something worth saving: history, craftsmanship, and a chance to bring back the kind of charm you can’t fake. Each of the four kitchens had a story, even if it was buried under layers of linoleum and broken tile. We brought them back—not as replicas, but as heartfelt tributes. Think apron-front sinks, restored built-ins, beadboard ceilings, salvaged cabinet doors, and vintage hardware. We didn’t try to make it “modern.” We made it true. The trim? Original. The wood floors? Refinished by hand. The doors? Heavy, with stories in every scratch. Restoring a 1906 quadplex isn’t just about walls and roofs. It’s about honoring the layers of life that came before—while making space for new families to add their own. We didn’t flip this house. We rescued it. If you walk through now, you’ll smell old wood and fresh paint. You’ll hear the creak of floors that refuse to be quiet. And you’ll know: this place is loved. To everyone who believes old houses are worth saving—this one’s for you.
