The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of widely reported media coverage and viralvideo footage from a stand-up comedy show held in Gurugram, Haryana. The incident reportedly involved remarks that allegedly glorified sexual coercion and non-consensual conduct towards a woman, which were made publicly and later applauded by the audience.
Taking serious note of the matter, NCW Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Director General of Police, Haryana, directing immediate, stringent, and time-bound action, along with a detailed Action Taken Report within seven days. The Commission has also sought updates on FIR registration under relevant provisions, action against those involved, and the role of organisers and venue management. Additionally, hearing notices have been issued to Pranit More and Himanshu Jangra, with a hearing scheduled for June 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
