🌕🌑 What to Expect During the Aug. 27–28 “Almost Blood Moon” Lunar Eclipse

A spectacular deep partial lunar eclipse is coming on August 27–28, 2026, with Earth’s dark shadow covering about 96% of the Moon’s disk at maximum eclipse.

Here are the 5 key stages to watch:

🌘 1. Penumbral Eclipse Begins — 01:23 UTC, Aug. 28
Earth’s faint outer shadow begins crossing the Moon. The change will be subtle at first, but the lunar surface will gradually appear darker.

🌑 2. Partial Eclipse Begins — 02:33 UTC
Earth’s darker umbra takes its first “bite” out of the Moon. The curved edge of Earth’s shadow becomes clearly visible sweeping across the lunar surface.

🔴 3. Maximum Eclipse — 04:12 UTC
This is the highlight! About 96% of the Moon will be inside Earth’s umbral shadow, leaving only a bright crescent exposed. The eclipsed portion may take on a deep orange or reddish hue as sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere.

🌒 4. Partial Eclipse Ends — 05:51 UTC
Earth’s umbral shadow completely leaves the Moon. The bright portion grows again as direct sunlight returns.

🌕 5. Penumbral Eclipse Ends — 07:01 UTC
The faint outer shadow disappears, officially ending the eclipse.

✨ Why it’s special:
Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is safe to watch with the naked eye. Binoculars or a telescope can reveal even more detail as Earth’s shadow moves across the Moon’s craters and dark lunar plains.

🌍 The eclipse will be visible from much of the night side of Earth, although the exact stages depend on your location.

James Webb just confirmed it: something is seriously wrong with our understanding of the universe.

Two measurements of how fast the cosmos is expanding. The early universe says 67. The nearby universe says 73. Kilometres per second per megaparsec, and that gap should not exist.

For years the blame sat on Hubble. Blurry starfields, sloppy calibration, some error hiding in the chain of distance measurements.

Then Webb pointed its far sharper eyes at the exact same stars and came back with the exact same numbers. So much for a mistake.

That leaves the model itself. Dark energy that shifts over time. An extra particle in the young cosmos. Gravity behaving in a way nobody has written down.

Unknown physics, sitting right there in the data.

On August 30–31, 2026, the beautiful Moon will align with the brilliant planet Saturn and the elusive spark of distant Neptune in our skies.
