Are these posts still helpful?
On one hand, I think it can be refreshing to see how vastly different a body can appear depending on posing, angles, or lighting conditions, and I do think these comparisons can aid in making us feel less alone in our bodies.
However….
Does me showing how I can look ‘slim’ one second and then ‘normal’ the next really help anyone? (I’m actually asking) Because neither of these images reflect the way I actually look, they are both as deceitful as each other.
Perhaps more importantly, what does it do for those who can’t use simple camera trickery to change how they are perceived, either online or in real life - those in bodies that aren’t straight sized (it is mostly the thin, white creators posting these images, not excluding myself from this generalisation), disabled bodies, those with visible health conditions, visible scarring, facial differences, the list goes on.
This is something I’ve talked about before and I need to be clear here, I love and respect many creators who have previously and continue to create posts like these, many of which have positively impacted me and the way I see my own body.
How do you relate to these posts? I finally have the vote feature on here so please let me know
