"The high number of workers absconding is not only because of the workers themselves, but also because of problems within the system."

Former PALM Scheme workers in Australia are speaking out, alleging mistreatment, unpaid expectations, and inadequate support from some employers and agents contributed to workers disengaging from the program.

Labour Commissioner, James Willie, says the concerns are not new and will be addressed through the ongoing review of the bilateral labour agreement between Vanuatu and Australia.

Prime Minister Jotham Napat has challenged senior education officials to lead by example, saying punctuality, accountability, and stronger performance must be at the heart of the Government's education reform agenda.

Speaking at the opening of the Education and Training Forum, the Prime Minister expressed disappointment after some key officials arrived late, saying reform begins with changing attitudes and work ethics.

The Vanuatu Football Federation will host a one-day Beach Soccer Championship this Saturday to identify players for the national team.

Five teams featuring some of the country's top football talents will compete as VFF begins preparations for the OFC Men's Beach Soccer Nations Cup in Tahiti this October.
National coaches will use the tournament to assess and select the best players to represent Vanuatu on the regional stage.

200+ Farmers Connect with Buyers at National Agriculture Expo

More than 200 farmers from across Vanuatu met directly with buyers during the Business-to-Business Forum at the National Agriculture Expo on Maewo, strengthening efforts to link local producers with reliable markets.

Buyers from the tourism, agriculture, livestock, forestry and fisheries sectors discussed supply opportunities with farmers, while negotiations continued on future business partnerships and supply agreements.

Around 70 per cent of people living in rural Vanuatu do not have easy access to social media because of the cost of mobile data, according to VBTC Chief Executive Officer Francis Herman.

Speaking during the signing of a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Education and Training, Mr Herman said VBTC is in the process of bringing 50,000 shortwave radio receivers into the country to be distributed free to rural communities, helping more people access important information.

He encouraged government ministries and organisations to make full use of VBTC's public platforms to reach communities nationwide.

Vanuatu is set to strengthen its weather monitoring and early warning systems after local meteorologists received specialized training to build and maintain low-cost weather stations using innovative American technology.

The week-long workshop, held in Port Vila in July, equipped staff from the Vanuatu Meteorology and Hydrometeorological Service (VMHS) with practical skills to manufacture, install and maintain 3D-Printed Automatic Weather Stations, also known as 3D-PAWS.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. National Weather Service, the training was delivered by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research's Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET).

4,715 Taro. 6.6 Tonnes. 175 Varieties. One Giant Taro Tower on Maewo.

A remarkable showcase of Vanuatu’s agricultural heritage is on display at the National Agriculture Expo on Maewo Island.

The giant Taro Tower, featuring 4,715 taro with a total weight of 6,642 kilograms, represents 175 different varieties and is estimated to be worth around VT 1.178 million on the domestic market.

The National Agriculture Expo officially opened today, bringing together farmers, buyers, and stakeholders from across Vanuatu to promote market opportunities, value addition, innovation, and sustainable agricultural development.
