National player Dorah Edgell departed Port Vila yesterday to begin a six-day refereeing program in Samoa as part of the Oceania U17s Basketball 5x5 Tournament, marking a major milestone in her emerging officiating career.

The 35-year-old will spend the first three days, starting on the 6th of this month, undergoing coaches’ training before stepping onto the court to officiate matches during the final three days of the tournament.

The national senior men’s and women’s football teams are expected to return home today to a hero’s welcome after the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Minister’s (PM) Cup in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG).

The men’s side proved to be the best in the competition, dethroning the hosts PNG in a 5-4 penalty shootout after each team were tied 2-all after extra time play. They were crowned the new MSG PM Cup champions, making the country’s first major regional title after the Melanesian Cup in 1990.

Vanuatu’s rising surfing stars are preparing to make waves on the global stage, with the Vanuatu Surfing Association (VSA) confirming that junior athletes Danylo David, Manoa Tarroux and Sacha Ferry will represent the country at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Peru.

The trio will be accompanied by national coach Ben Johnson as they head to the renowned surf break of Punta Rocas, where the world championship will run from December 5–14.

The selection marks another significant milestone for Vanuatu as it continues to build momentum in international surfing.
