It’s Philodendron Friday!

This variegated Prince of Orange is the Philodendron I’ve been crushing on the most lately. I found it at Ted’s Greenhouse in Chicago, and it’s already looking ready for a bigger pot.

Let’s see yours! What’s your favorite Philodendron right now? Feel free to drop a photo in the comments—I never get tired of seeing everyone’s plants.

From Indonesia to Iowa 🌱

I loved getting to see the preparation process before these plants ever left the greenhouse. After unboxing, I checked the roots and started acclimating them to their new home.

The Hoyas are already settled into a Fluval Stratum and perlite mix, while the Anthuriums will stay in moss until they show signs of new root and/or leaf growth. So far so good!!!

Which one was your favorite??

A little behind-the-scenes look at how I film my prayer plant time-lapses.

These plants don’t normally live in front of this window—I just gather them together for filming. The time-lapse is recorded on an iPhone in time-lapse mode, plugged into power the entire time, with an extra light running overnight so the camera can keep recording.

Once filming is done, everyone goes back to their usual spot. Most of these plants live on shelves with supplemental grow lights and are kept in self-watering or bottom-watering setups.

What other behind-the-scenes plant content would you like to see?

I feel like there are two very different camps on this.

If you buy a beautiful handmade planter, do you plant directly into it or use it as a cover pot?

And ceramic artists—I especially want your opinion. Do you like seeing your work used as an actual planter, or protected with a nursery pot inside?

I’ve recently been using Tréleaf Saucers because they keep my pottery elevated above excess water, and I’m curious how everyone else handles their favorite pieces.

If you’d like the Tréleaf Saucer link, comment “SAUCER” and I’ll send it over. They also gave me a code for 10% off.

Plant Crush of the Week: Philodendron Emerald King

This one has quickly become a favorite. I picked up this Philodendron Emerald King from Leaf Vine Node at the Winter Bash at Ted’s Greenhouse, and it’s easily doubled in size since then.

What I love most is how the variegation keeps getting stronger with each new leaf. There’s one gorgeous half-moon leaf that steals the show every time I walk by.

It’s growing in a standard potting mix under a grow light and seems perfectly happy. It’s planted in pottery from Flannel Feather and sitting on a Treleaf saucer. One thing I really like about these saucers is that they lift the pot up out of any runoff water, helping keep the pottery clean while still adding a little extra humidity around the plant.

Plant details:
• Plant: Philodendron Emerald King
• Pottery:
• Saucer: (comment saucer for 10% off link)
• Purchased from: at Ted’s Greenhouse Winter Bash
