CZART is an experimental metal band hailing from Poland. The concept behind their debut album, “Czarty Polskie,” has been controversial not only for the AI debate but for the many references to Polish demonology. On All Hallows Eve, Gary Hernandez, writer and editor for Metal Temple, caught up w...

The music of the Polish band CZART, as displayed on their debut album "Czarty Polskie" (out now on the code666 label of Aural Music) could be described as an eclectic mix of death metal, sludge, and elements of 1970s psychedelic rock. Their concept album draws parallels between AI and old demonic folklore, with both seen as ways of rationalizing very human wrongdoing. Our Comrade Aleks dug into all of this in a very interesting (and probably controversial) interview of CZART's founder, which you can find along with some of the many videos the band have made for their songs, via the comment link below.

CZART’s “Czarty Polskie” is a watershed album. They legitimize the whole AI metal endeavor . . . and if that sounds like sacrilege, remember metalheads have a long tradition of treading heretical paths.

We close this round of new releases with something truly special — and a bit controversial.

The multimedia project CZART just dropped their new album “Czarty Polskie” on our cult sublabel code666.

I might be wrong, but this could be the first time a metal label releases an AI-enhanced album on physical formats — CD and vinyl.

Now, I’m an old-school guy. I grew up with the music of the ’80s and ’90s, and like many from my generation, I’ve never been a fan of AI — especially in art.

But then I discovered CZART, and it really made me stop and think. Was my rejection of AI just prejudice?

I remembered how people once hated the switch from analog to digital recording, or from hand-drawn art to Photoshop. The same happened with the Internet, drum machines, social media, YouTube, Spotify…

every change was “the end of music.” And yet, here we are — all those things are now part of our normal world.

So I realized it was time to challenge my own bias and I decided to release CZART. Because they simply deserve to be heard and seen.

Out now: “The Abyss into Which We All Have to Stare”, the beautiful new album by Void Of Sleep.
This band is very close to my heart — our collaboration goes back more than a decade, and our friendship even further, to the early ’90s when I was taking my very first steps in the music world.
Void Of Sleep embody everything I love about the independent scene: talent, passion, and perseverance. They’re never afraid to change and evolve, even when it means avoiding the easy path or shortcuts to success.
In a way, they’re beautiful losers — just like me — and I can’t help but admire them for that.
