🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland Trip Part II—Inverness and the Black Isle 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Evening all! Continuing on from yesterday’s post, here’s some more pictures from my recent trip up to Scotland. After settling in to the place we were staying, I spent some time exploring Inverness itself, as well as the area surrounding us on the Black Isle—swipe on through for more pictures! Most of these photos are from in and around Cromarty (which was an adorable little town, even if it did give off major Wicker Man vibes 😬🌞) and Chanonry Point, though there are also some from inside Leakey’s Bookshop in Inverness—not a huge selection of fiction books given the size of the store, but it had such a range of non-fiction that I’d imagine it covers every subject imaginable. Fantastic building, too.

Also pictured is the imposing National Wallace Monument; unfortunately, I didn’t manage to go inside on this trip, but I had to stop and snap a pic—it’s probably the most wizard’s tower-esque building I’ve ever seen. A proper visit is definitely on the agenda next time around. Tomorrow, I’ll be popping back in with photos from Black Water Falls near Garve; the river/waterfalls there were just incredible.

Hey there folks, long time no speak! I’ve recently returned from a holiday up in Scotland, a little family vacation and (much-needed) break from reality 😮‍💨🤣 I’d been meaning to pop on here earlier and post some pictures of the trip along the way, but didn’t manage to find the time to do so—it’s was very much all go from the second we arrived!

Anyway, better late than never, right? Here’s a few photos from our first week up there. First on the agenda was my habitual diversion whenever I’m headed anywhere up north: through to Alnwick to visit a couple of my favourite bookshops, the fantastic Barter Books and the Alnwick Lions Club charity bookshop. I also took a very touristy moment to check out the rest-stop on the border-line between England and Scotland. Once I’d made it into Scotland, I spent a bit of time in Stirling and Perth (and browsed all their book/charity shops too, naturally) before making my way up to where we were staying in Fortrose, just beyond Inverness.

The fortnight I spent up there was extremely busy with various adventures, involving trips out to from Blackwater Falls to Spey Bay, the Cairngorms to Loch Ness—I’ve ended up with so many photos, I think they all deserve posts of their own 😂 I’ll be popping back in with those sometime soon!

Afternoon all! Over the weekend, we took a trip down to Knaresborough for the day. It’s been ages since I last visited here, and I’d forgotten what a beautiful little town it is! The UK is having something of a heatwave at the moment so the weather was fantastic; down some of these streets it was pretty easy to imagine we were somewhere on the Mediterranean and not still in England 😂

We popped into a lovely coffee shop called Number Thirteen for some great drinks, and were also very surprised to find out it was free to walk around the Knaresborough Castle grounds! Naturally, we also had a nosey in every charity shop and bookshop we could find too 👀 I’ll probably share the full selection of photos in a reel sometime soon (since there were quite a lot, as always 🙈), but here’s a gallery of some of my favourites from the day!

Hey folks! Popping back in with a couple more recent acquisitions, two vintage Stephen King hardbacks: a UK first edition of Cujo from Macdonald & Co and a 1994 BCA edition of Thinner. These are a pair of King’s I’ve never got around to reading, though I have seen their respective film adaptations, which really are whacky enough themselves.

Cujo and Thinner are arguably two of the maestro’s more bizarre works: the former about a rabid Saint Bernard on a bloodthirsty rampage and the latter concerning a gypsy curse that causes a lawyer to uncontrollably lose weight. King himself famously admitted in his writing craft novel/memoir On Writing that he doesn’t actually remember writing the vast majority of Cujo—which I suppose adds another layer of intrigue to its madcap premise. This cover of Cujo is probably one of my favourite of the near-innumerable King covers—if you’re a fan of King too, what’s your favourite cover?
