Every 10th of September, organizations all over the world gather to celebrate World Su***de Prevention Day (WSPD). First established in 2003 by the International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP) in conjunction sith the World Health Organization (WHO), it aims to spread a single message: Su***de can be prevented.

WSPD grows every year, with the event observed in over 60 countries. It encourages people to reach out to people whom they believe to be suicidal, as suicidal thoughts can and should be interrupted. It aims to spread awareness of su***de prevention both locally and globally, highighting the need for every individual to act with urgency and immediacy in helping those in need.

Su***de is not inevitable. National Su***de Prevention Day calls us to confront this silent crisis, to listen to those in despair, and to stand for those who feel unseen. If you suspect someone you know may be having suicidal thoughts, always take action. Interrupt their thoughts. Console them. Keep them company. Let’s save lives today, because tomorrow is too late.

Even in the darkest storms, there is light to be found. You matter.

Rejoice! Today the Christian world celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Chosen before time to deliver the Word Incarnate into our world, Mother Mary's birth would signal the quiet beginning of the culmination of God's saving plan to redeem us of our Original Sin. As Pope St. Paul VI wirtes in the 1972 document Marialis Cultus, her birth signals the “dawn of our salvation.” Let us honor her life, her fiat, her unique role in salvation history, and most of all, her example.

Palo, LEYTE - Incumbent SAMELSAT officers bookended their term last September 4, 2025 by leading an electoral program at the SSCTI canteen that would appoint their successors at the head of the MLS Department’s student academic organization.

SAMELSAT President Chester Rota led the elections, which were a “classroom-style” affair where nominations for each vacant position at SAMELSAT were accepted on the spot to be followed by a vote via a show of hands.

Following the election of new SAMELSAT president, Rota handed over the responsibility of presiding over the program to his successor, Elisa Isabel O. Diolola.

After all vacancies within SAMELSAT had been filled, Rota returned to deliver some closing remarks, quoting a Mary Lou Anderson poem on leadership before stating, “to our newly elected officers, I wish you a fruitful year. Continue making progress, love the department and embrace your position with all your heart.”

“Once again, I am Chester Renyer Rota, your former SAMELSAT president, nearly signing off,” Rota concluded.

On August 30, 2025, students and faculty of the Pharmacy Department held the Pharmacy Orientation at St. Ottilien Hall. The event was hosted by members of the Junior Philippine Pharmacists Association (JPPhA) - SSCTI Chapter.

Students were divided into five teams called Houses, each of which representing a famous historical figure in the pharmacy profession. The program commenced with opening remarks by Mrs. Lissel Arianne Moraleta, RPh, JD, who encouraged the Pharmacy community to embody principles such as community, professionalism, and the Benedictine values.

Mrs. Angelica Lopez, RPh, MSPh, oriented students on the program’s curriculum, discussing at length the Department’s mission and vision, practices and trends in pharmacy education, grading systems, internship requirements, and other important academic matters.

Afterwards, Ms. Jeisha Lagramada, president of the JPPhA, introduced her organization to the community, explaining its hierarchy, activities, membership requirements, and responsibilities.

This was followed by a video presentation by Ms. Riona Sison on other pharmacy organizations associated with the JPPhA, including the FJCPPHA and IPSF, and their various national and international events. Ms. Chariece Baleña, a JPPhA member, relayed her experiences in one of these events in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Students then gathered together to ask their questions in Pharma Circle, an interactive Q&A session. They then enjoyed playing a series of intense and entertaining games, including “Animal Sounds” and “Paint Me a Picture”. Gift items were also given to various students through the Raffle Draw and Early Bird awards.

To conclude the program, Ms. Lagramada delivered her closing remarks. The awarding of certificates to the members of the JPPhA followed. Finally, the entire Pharmacy community gathered together in a photo opportunity to commemorate their eventful day.
