History comes alive in Saratoga this weekend 🇺🇸

Travel back to 1777 and experience the sights, sounds, and stories of the American Revolution as saratoga250 hosts its Siege Living History Weekend, October 10–11, at historic Fort Hardy Park in Schuylerville. Taking place on the very grounds where British General John Burgoyne’s army surrendered nearly 249 years ago, this two-day event brings one of the most pivotal moments in American history to life 💣

Experience booming cannons, musket demonstrations, Revolutionary War encampments, military drills, 18th-century music, blacksmithing, and hands-on historical activities. Visitors can also enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, local food trucks, and interactive exhibits exploring everyday life during the Revolution. The event is free and family-friendly, running Saturday from 10 AM–4 PM and Sunday from 10 AM–2 PM 🗓️

After nearly 300 years on Hudson Avenue, Albany’s oldest building has a future again 🏠

Built in 1728, the Van Ostrande-Radliff House at 48 Hudson predates the American Revolution and stands as one of the few surviving examples of early Dutch urban architecture in America. After 13 years of planning, fundraising and restoration, the work is complete and the building is beginning its next chapter as the new home of Historic Albany Foundation.

Getting here took a community. Historic Albany Foundation led an effort that brought together support from New York State, federal preservation programs, local leaders, private partners and more than 60 individual donors. Support from Governor Kathy Hochul’s administration and state agencies helped fund major phases of the restoration, alongside years of advocacy and support from Albany’s local leadership and preservation community.

It’s the kind of project that only happens when people decide a piece of their city is worth fighting for.

For nearly three centuries, 48 Hudson has watched Albany change around it. Today, instead of becoming another piece of the city remembered only through old photographs, it gets to remain part of what comes next.

The story of 48 Hudson continues.

And Albany’s oldest building is here to stay.

The restoration of 48 Hudson Avenue is officially complete, preserving a building that has stood in downtown Albany for nearly 300 years 🏡

Dating back to 1728, 48 Hudson is widely recognized as the oldest surviving building in the city and one of the oldest structures in the region. After centuries of change around it, the historic building has now undergone a major restoration aimed at preserving its original character while ensuring it can continue standing for generations to come👏

It’s a rare surviving piece of Albany’s earliest history, restored nearly three centuries after it was built.

Albany officially has a day dedicated to cheesecake 🍰🏛️

Sunday, September 27 was proclaimed Cheesecake Machismo Day in the City of Albany, recognizing 21 years of one of the city’s most beloved small businesses.

Owners Lynn Beaumont and Bam Lynch started Cheesecake Machismo from what was originally a hobby, eventually turning it into the tiny cheesecake shop at 293 Hamilton Street that has built a following far beyond Albany. Today, their recipe box includes hundreds of different flavors, with a rotating selection made each day and their signature “Frankencakes” letting customers mix and match slices into one cake 🍥

In 2017, Cheesecake Machismo was named the best cheesecake in New York State in a Delish roundup based on Yelp reviews, beating out shops across the state, including New York City. The honor earned Lynn and Bam recognition from the New York State Assembly and their first Cheesecake Machismo Day proclamation from the City of Albany 📝

Nearly a decade later, people still line up on Hamilton Street, the shop still regularly sells out, and visitors have been known to make a stop at Cheesecake Machismo part of their trips to Albany. Now, 21 years into the journey, the city is celebrating them all over again 👏

For over two decades, dp has been serving downtown Albany from its home at 25 Chapel Street, mixing the feel of a lively neighborhood bar with a polished downtown dining room 🍽️

Through the back doors of dp, you’ll find its sister restaurant, Yono’s — a must-hit for world-class fine dining right here in Albany, celebrating its 40th anniversary this week. On Tuesday, September 29, the Purnomo family, who operate both dp and Yono’s, will be honored with the Mark Quandt Service Award at the Regional Food Bank CHEFS: Big Apple event for their contributions to the fight against hunger. It’s yet another well-deserved honor for a family that continuously goes above and beyond to support our community 👏
