FOWLERS BAY- South Australia

Sits beside an extensive dune system which is encroaching on the tiny township. There is movement of the sand into the village, with streets having disappeared over the past decades. In the surrounding low-lying, windswept heath that covers the sandy landscape, there is simple beauty in the muted greens and pinks of the shrubs, surviving in a harsh environment with an average annual rainfall of 300mm. The buildings are reminiscent of other SA towns such as Port Gibbon: low profile buildings, lots of corrugated iron, shacks with the odd historic buildings.

The Outback Project is a bold initiative dedicated to preserving Australia’s wilderness through stunning imagery and storytelling. Using still and motion cameras, we aim to document our journey westward, capturing diverse ecosystems and environments.

By raising awareness and engaging local communities, we aim to inspire action and protect the outback for future generations. Join us on this journey to celebrate and safeguard this remarkable land.

Traveling through the amazing in lower Flinders Rangers, is always a beautiful experience huge open skies to carved up by agricultural patterns throughout the landscape.

The Earth is Rich here and the people are warm. It feels like home but being so far from the coast it’s a strange unknown, a thought and experience. Jeanie and I spend the days driving through & soaking in everything we can as we pass through these incredible landscapes on our way west.

Everyday something new, every morning a different light, it’s now 6:45 AM and the sun has not yet broken the horizon, A pink hue dances across the lower clouds & over the dunes. Another beautiful day ahead of more unknown experiences. It’s such a pleasure to travel like this, I’m grateful for the opportunity .

The Outback Project is a bold initiative dedicated to preserving Australia’s wilderness through stunning imagery and storytelling. Using still and motion cameras, we aim to document our journey westward, capturing diverse ecosystems and cultural heritage.

Starting in the Southern Highlands of NSW, we travel through Menindee in Outback NSW, towards the Nullarbor & Fowlers Bay, and the southern forests of WA, then north to the Kimberley before crossing the vast Tanami Desert towards South Australias Painted Dessert and the ancient Flinders Rangers.

By raising awareness and engaging local communities, we aim to inspire action and protect the outback for future generations. Join us on this journey to celebrate and safeguard this remarkable land.
