K House tucked away on a secluded beachfront on the southern tip of Sri Lanka in the fishing village of Kottegoda, is an exclusive beach resort by Norm Architects and AIM ARCHITECTURE that blends into the serenity of the surrounding landscape with its simplicity of form and materiality befit of its location.

A blend of minimalist and vernacular aesthetics, the material palette of the resort balances the typically austere bare concrete and granite surfaces with local teak wood, polished terrazzo, and recycled terracotta that provide added warmth and tactility to the resort’s spaces.

Courtyard of Suzhou Stream Villa by Change Studio

"Ancient poetries written about Chinese gardens usually convey people’s desire to follow nature, sense the feeling and value of nature, beyond simply describing enjoyment of life. Similarly, when designing the courtyard we considered the unique regional history and culture, infusing the idea of nature in the experience and thinking of eastern artistic conception. Within the limited land area, structures, interior, and landscape achieved a harmonious complement." explains the studio.

Bold, graphic forms grace minimalist cylindrical ceramics, handcrafted by Pawena Studio
Founded by Pawena Thimaporn in 2015, the Los Angeles based studio produces a range of hand-painted, textured ceramics that combine striking geometric patterns, bold color gestures, line, and mark-making.

“My work is explorative and led by instinct. Spontaneous ideas play in my head — this is where my process begins. From sketches to clay to the wheel to hand-built techniques, my ceramic work transforms into a blend of organic and geometric shapes. The results lead to graphic and modernistic pottery both in shape and form.” explains Pawena about her design process and graphical style.

The items created by Pawena truly celebrate the artistry of making something by hand, from beginning to end. Her designs invite you to pause and take a moment to reflect. Inspiring the owner to not simply use an object for its function but to appreciate what else it can offer you. A moment to step back from your laptop, or put down a pen. It’s a tactile diversion, a visual indulgence.

Courtyard of Suzhou Stream Villa by Change Studio

"Empty woods is the first water yard after coming through the entrance. The tranquil water surface adds radiance and beauty to the structures and three walls of corridors. The water mirrors the woods behind the structures, the cold stonewall, as well as the sky. The space of the yard seems inward and empty on purpose, but it is fully loaded with the reflection of everything. It separated the project from the rumble of the street outside, presenting an image of serenity and leisure." explains the studio.

By combining truffles, nature, and minimalistic restaurant design, architects Mariana Garcia Oliveira and Filipi Oliveira of created a beautiful pop-up restaurant for Tartuferia, San Paolo in Brazil.

"When we enter the Tartuferia San Paolo, the aroma of the place is delicious! You immediately think: I want to eat this! The history of the truffle touches our senses. And this project, with these natural, receptive, and welcoming characteristics, reminds us of the feeling of living." explains the studio.

The Casa Na Areia – a ‘House on the Sand’ by in Trancoso, Brazil, abandons any reference to the modernist dwelling and offers itself as a sensorial machine in which nature, light, shadows, and the constant and infinite sound of the ocean become the fundamental materials of the project.
