Update from Extinction Rebellion UK's press team:

*BREAKING: Police raid the Antepavillion - home of bamboo structure art installation - in Haggerston and arrest employees*

We have just been made aware that police have raided the Antepavillion art space in Haggerston, east London, where an installation of several bamboo structures are displayed on the roof. Employees of the Antepavillion and residents of the building have been arrested, although it is not yet known how many or under what powers.

The bamboo structures - used in the Extinction Rebellion blockade of the Broxbourne printworks in September last year - won the 2021 Special Early Summer Commission in the Antepavillion competition. As far as we are aware, those arrested have no connection to the protest last September or to Extinction Rebellion.

Why are the police confiscating an art installation? Under what powers are they arresting employees of an art space and people who live in the building? This is a vast overreach of police powers, a major infringement on the lives of those arrested, and suppression of freedom of expression. Would this be happening if Extinction Rebellion wasn’t holding Rupert Murdoch and rest of the billionaire owned press to account?

The Science Museum's exhibition 'Our Future Planet' is sponsored by Shell, one of the worst contributors to the Climate and Ecological Emergency, not to mention a perpetrator of major human rights violations. For a company like that to sponsor an exhibition that is about the future of a planet they are helping to destroy, the Science Museum must have turned many blind eyes. This is not acceptable. Alejandra Piazolla from XR's Internationalist Solidarity Network co-hosts this show with Marijn where they are confronted with the terrible truth of nature conservation's track record of human rights violations. Their guest is Stephen Corry, former CEO of human rights organisation Survival International, who has a long standing history of campaigning against land grabs and evictions in the name of conservation. They hear shocking examples where indigenous people have been evicted from their lands in the name of 'nature conservation', establishing nature parks that the original inhabitants no longer have access to. They discuss the controversial '30 by 30' policy proposed by world leading conservation organisations which would see 30% of the world protected, but will result in land grabs and the displacement of thousands, if not millions of people, fears Corry.
