Dishwashing Liquid: Another household item we use everyday to make our dishes squeaky clean.

Also another product we make right here in New Zealand! Supporting our local economy and employing hardworking Kiwis to manufacture it.

Sunlight Liquid is proudly made right here in New Zealand, and has been an iconic brand in many Kiwi households over the years.

Palmolive, the competition is made in Australia.

Would you consider supporting a New Zealand made product next time you go grocery shopping?

Vinegar: It’s a natural product we use everyday for cleaning, cooking, and many other household jobs.

Did you know that we make it right here in New Zealand?

Below you’ll see two different vinegars you can buy off the shelf in supermarkets:

The first one is a “Product of New Zealand”, which means the product has been made in New Zealand from ingredients grown here. This is the Pams brand from PaknSave and New World.

The second one is a “Product of Australia”, which means it has been made in Australia from ingredients grown there. This is the Homebrand version from Countdown.

The New Zealand version keeps Kiwis like us employed throughout the whole process. From growing the raw ingredients, to manufacturing the product itself.

Is this something you would consider next time you are purchasing household staples?

Let's face it, it can be confusing figuring out if a product is truely made in New Zealand or not.

Here are a few points to remember:

- "Product of New Zealand" or "Made in New Zealand using local ingredients" means that the product was grown or made in New Zealand using New Zealand sourced materials. This could be NZ grown timber, NZ farmed beef, or NZ produced honey.

- "Made in New Zealand using local and/or imported ingredients" means that the product is prepared or packed in New Zealand, however the ingredients could be sourced from New Zealand or overseas. You will find many items state this, as NZ does rely on imports alot. However, although it might not be 100% NZ, it does employee New Zealanders in the process, whether that be operating a machine in a food processing plant. This could include Bacon, Mayonnaise, or french fries.

- Items that say "Made in Australia", "Product of China", or "Made in Indonesia from local or imported ingredients" do not benefit our country, in terms of employing New Zealanders or using locally grown produce or materials. We understand some items are simply not made in New Zealand, however, the aim of this page is to educate Kiwis on alternative products that are made in New Zealand and employee Kiwis.

Welcome to Make the Swap NZ!

This page is intended to educate and inform New Zealanders of NZ made alternatives for everyday items. We all want to support local, and help out businesses that create jobs for the awesome people of this country.

Please note: We don't want to disrespect companies, we just want to make everyday Kiwis aware of NZ alternatives.

The "New Zealand Made" logo is property of the "Buy New Zealand Made Campaign". We aren't associated with them, however, we fully support the work they do for our New Zealand businesses.

This page was inspired by the "Make The Swap" (Australia) page.
