At Oak Tree Comics, we’re publishing an anthology of comics titled WE ARE LOS ANGELES. The anthology will include stories from more than 25 Los Angeles writers and artists. As the book celebrates the power of community, we are looking for your ideas for where to donate the book’s proceeds.

🌟It’s a joy to announce Bruna Martins will be illustrating our picture book SLOTH & HUMMINGBIRD: A MINDFUL FRIENDSHIP written by 📚🦥🪺

is an illustrator, graphic designer, and ceramist from São Paulo, Brazil. Her work celebrates nature, childhood, culture, and education through a playful illustrative style.

The warmth and kindness exhibited through her art is perfect for SLOTH & HUMMINGBIRD, which is about Sloth and Hummingbird, of course! Their friendship will help young readers practice mindfulness while embarking on fun adventures through Brazil’s Atlantic rainforest.

Calling all Los Angeles writers! Oak Tree Comics invites you to submit your story for an anthology of children’s comics in support of wildfire relief. For submissions guidelines, please keep reading ⬇️

🌟PROJECT UPDATE: To date, we have selected 18 stories to be part of the anthology. To round out the book, we are hoping to find up to five more stories.

Structurally, the anthology will be divided into three sections, with stories about…

1️⃣ The fires
2️⃣ The ongoing relief efforts
3️⃣ And hopeful visions for the future

For section 1️⃣ (the fires), we are no longer accepting story submissions.

For section 2️⃣ (the relief efforts), we are hoping to find up to two more stories.

For section 3️⃣ (hopeful visions for the future), we are hoping to find up to three more stories.

🌟 OUR SUBMISSION GUIDELINES 🌟

🔘All story contributors must live in or be from the Los Angeles area.

🔘All stories must be comics intended for a middle-grade audience.

🔘All stories must be anticipated to be either 6 or 8 pages of comics in length.

🔘You do not have to be an illustrator to submit a story idea.

🔘To submit your story, please email 1) a cover letter AND 2) a synopsis of your story idea to info(at)oaktreecomics(dot)com.
