BARINGO SOUTH: Pavel Kipsoi Kotor of Sandai Graduates with Master’s Degree

Celebrations rock Sandai village, in Mochongoi Ward of Baringo South Constituency, as Pavel Kotor Kipsoi graduates from Mount Kenya University with a Master of Arts in Development Studies.

His research, “Assessing the Effects of Insecurity on Community Development Projects in Endorois, Marigat,” highlights how insecurity has slowed development in the region.

UPDATE: WILBERFORCE SEGUTON from Baringo Central Wins Prestigious UK Chevening Scholarship

Wilberforce Seguton from Kapropita, Baringo Central Constituency and co-founder of tech firm Bunifu Technologies, has been selected for the prestigious Chevening Scholarship 2025/2026 awarded by the UK Government through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

From a global pool of 102,274 applicants, Wilberforce is among just 1,500 scholars worldwide — and one of only 30 Kenyans chosen this year.

As a Chevening Scholar, he will pursue an MSc in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, studying under WMG Master’s and Warwick Business School — both ranked among the world’s leading institutions.

According to Wilberforce, the program comes at a critical time, with innovation being reshaped by emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence.

“This next step will strengthen my ability to build high-impact, globally competitive solutions while connecting with brilliant minds from across the world,” he said.

Over the last decade, he has played a pivotal role in growing Bunifu Technologies into a sustainable tech SME, and he plans to continue contributing to the company while in the UK.

He expressed gratitude to God, the UK in Kenya, the Chevening Awards program, and the University of Warwick for the opportunity.

UPDATE: FORMER BARINGO CENTRAL MP Sammy Mwaita Arrested Over Nairobi West Land Fraud

Former Baringo Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita, has been arrested in Nairobi in connection with a multi-million shilling land fraud case.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mwaita was apprehended in Kilimani and is facing multiple charges related to the fraudulent acquisition of two prime plots located along Mai Mahiu Road in Nairobi West.

In a statement released Sunday, the DCI confirmed:

“Detectives have today arrested Hon. Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita at Kilimani for the offences of Conspiracy to commit a felony, Making a document without authority, Abuse of office and giving false information to a person employed in the public service."

The arrest follows further directions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which has been reviewing investigations into the ownership and documentation of the contested properties — both valued at millions of shillings.

Mwaita, a former Commissioner of Lands before his election to Parliament, is being processed for arraignment as the search continues for other suspects linked to the fraudulent scheme.

He served as the MP for Baringo Central from 2007 to 2017 under the ODM ticket and URP respectively, famously defeating Gideon Moi, son of the late President Daniel arap Moi in 2007.

Authorities say the arrest is part of broader efforts to clamp down on high-level corruption and restore public confidence in land administration in Kenya.
