Did you know you don’t have to be a U.S. citizen to enlist in the U.S. Army?

Lawful Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) are eligible to enlist in the Army, individuals who are legally living in the U.S. and seeking citizenship can accelerate their application process by protecting the nation that’s providing them with opportunities and new beginnings.

Myth #7: Soldiers are poor

MYTH: Soldiers are poor.

The U.S. Army Basic Pay scale depends on a Soldiers’ rank and length of service. Their Basic Pay will increase with rank and years of experience, other factors such as Basic Allowance for Housing and Cost of Living Allowance impact a Soldier’s salary.

In addition to a paycheck, Soldiers receive competitive benefits including 30 vacation days annually, comprehensive health care, money for education, family services and career support.

Myth #5: You can’t have a family if you are in the U.S. Army

FACT: You can have a family while serving with the U.S. Army.

The U.S. Army extends benefits to Soldiers families including education opportunities and healthcare. Military bases offer childcare options for Soldiers families.

Soldiers and their families are also entitled to TRICARE that provides medical and dental care at little or no cost.

MYTH: The U.S. Army restricts your ability to express yourself and your personal style.
With new regulations, women in the Army are allowed to wear their hair in a ponytail or braids, wear neutral colored nail polish, makeup, and stud earrings.

The Army has also made recent updates to its tattoo policy to streamline the enlistment process and allow Soldiers more options to express themselves.

Single Soldiers receive free housing in the barracks, which they are permitted to decorate to make it feel more like home.

Myth! Applicants must meet the Army’s enlistment requirements to join, less than 23% of America’s youth aged 17 – 34 meet those requirements.

Recruiting highly qualified personnel is our focus, the basic standards to becoming a Soldier remain the same. The Army is helping new recruits position themselves to be able to serve and benefit the future of Army service.

The U.S. Army offers over 150 career opportunities, Did you know the Army is the largest employer of musicians?

The U.S. Army offers opportunities for adventure seekers like jumping from planes, rappelling, and driving tanks. Soldiers are paid to do things ordinary civilians would either never have the chance to do or would have to pay to experience.
