Which voices, point of views, and memories are included in institutional archives and mainstream media—and which are left out? Asking these questions invites us to confront the power structures that shape which (his)stories are preserved. Where official accounts forget, communities remember, archive, bookkeep, and document as a form of care.

At a panel held as part of a We Are The Medium retrospective at Concordia University 4th Space (), three collectives — , , and — shared their practices and insights with us.

Through curated artwork, photographs, music, books, storytelling projects, and archived conversations, these collectives self-represent, create participatory spaces, express and protect what is too often neglected, distorted, or excluded. Carrying the generational grief of displacement, war, genocide, and injustice, their work also helps sustain courage, care, and transcultural solidarity in everyday change work.

Thank you to all participants for holding space for these vital exchanges. ♥️
