Cuculi x Circomedia: Âellin & Anna Ling 💿💿

Thank you to everyone who came down to Circomedia last week for this lush double album launch extravaganza! Congratulations to both Âellin and Anna Ling on releasing such beautiful albums - it was a joy to have both these bands bringing such varied, vibrant performances on our stage.

We were so chuffed to see such a great turnout from right across the folk-jazz-pop audiences of Bristol - dancing, crying, laughing, singing, from wild enthusiasm to pindrop silence. We loved sharing our first visit to this venue with you all, and hope we’ll be back soon.

Huge thanks to Rowan Elliott for running the sound, Dan and the Circomedia crew for welcoming us into this one-of-a-kind venue. We’re also very grateful to PRS Foundation Early Career Promoter Fund - this was our final show with their support, and it really feels like we’ve stepped into a new mode over the last six months. We’re plotting hard for the next phase now…

TONIGHT at Circomedia 🙌

Anna Ling & Âellin both launch their debut albums in a stunning double bill of thoughtfully orchestrated alt-folk magic.

Anna's tender, twisting songs express a rich insight into the conundrum of being both an individual and part of a collective. The talented band of old friends she's brought together for this gig reflects that deep longing for connectivity: Isis Wolf-Light on clarinet & vocals, Leni Maskall on bass & vocals, and Aidan Watson on drums & vocals.

19.30 - doors
20.15 - Anna Ling
21.45 - Âellin
23.00 - music ends

Congratulations to Anna Ling for the release of her long-awaited debut album ‘Light’ - we’re playing it loud on the Cuculi HQ speakers today.

In a recent conversation with Beth Roberts, she reflected on the decision to self-produce her album. As fellow women in the music industry, we really resonated with her description of that necessity, and the joy and struggle of the process. We can’t WAIT to hear her play these majestic songs live with a full band at Circomedia this Friday!

A master of songcraft with a restlessly curious mind, Anna Ling's upcoming debut album 'Light' is the fruit of a creative process that took multiple years as she wrestled with the process alone, teaching herself how to produce her own music and ultimately creating a collection of fierce, tender songs that sound defiantly like herself.

Don't miss her stunning album launch at Circomedia on Fri 5 Sept! Tickets from Headfirst Bristol via 🔗🌳

Siân Magill's journey towards her debut album as Âellin has been a gradual process of self-education - especially as a woman writing and producing her own music. Her upcoming album launch at Circomedia on 5 Sept is the culmination of many years' evolution as an artist rejecting narrow definition as she creates a whole world of sound across the intersection genres of jazz, folk and electronica.

🌪 5 September: Cuculi x Circomedia ft. Âellin

We're thrilled to be hosting Âellin's long-awaited album launch at legendary Bristol venue Circomedia - part of a special full band double header with alt-folk songwriter Anna Ling .

A burgeoning musical force in the UK experimental folk scene, Magill’s songcraft is marked by a spirit of restless exploration and curious wonder. Drawing on literary influences and rich intertextual layers, the project evokes themes of collective memory, dream states, and the unconscious realm.

Expect an intricate blend of fingerstyle and jazz guitar, cello and violin strings grounded in the UK/Celtic folk and Hardanger traditions, double bass, deep sub-bass, beat-driven percussion, and an ever-shifting tapestry of augmented vocals and granular synthesis.

Who are we?

Cuculi Records is a DIY label based in Bristol, UK. It’s a collective effort imagined by songwriters Bethany Roberts and Bec Garthwaite as a space to cultivate our own sound and release it independently.

After several years of writing, performing and recording with songwriters’ collective Hands of the Heron, it felt right to create a platform to share the effort and joy of releasing our music, alongside the solo projects and offshoot collaborations born from the band.

Within this creative cocoon, these songwriters and poets have found pathways to develop their craft. Come and listen.
