Cardwell's Cove is a place outside time and space, where it's always cocktail hour, there's always a perfect beachy breeze, and there's a chair available with just the right amount of shade. However, it is connected to our reality through a portal in a charming house in Dallas! We were really happy to get to stop by the Cove on our way to San Antonio last week and spend time with our old friends Adrian Cardwell and his husband, Aaron. Thank you both for the hospitality!

After Uwe's final episode of back on August 10, we stuck around in the A R T x F M studio to join George3PO and Detroit Dave on Road Movie Music for an afterparty.

We got to play a few more tunes with That Driving Beat, and we talked about how we got into radio broadcasting, our early music interests and how they led back to 1960s soul, R&B, and Mod tunes, and our plans for the future.

Huge thanks to Tribune Showprint Posters for putting these amazing letterpress posters together at short notice! They look just like those amazing vintage concert posters from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s because Tribune made those too, on the same kind of equipment!

We'll be road-tripping Uwe's stuff down to his new place in San Antonio in a couple of weeks, and we're doing all the important work researching the trip. Not like, hotels to stay in or any of that boring stuff, we'll figure that out on the fly. We're talking about the important considerations for a successful road trip: where to concentrate record digging, and where to eat! So, we're zooming in close on photos of record stores and barbeque joints on Google maps to see which ones have what we need!

Any recommendations on the route from Louisville to San Antonio? We're probably concentrating our time in Memphis and Little Rock but passing through a big chunk of Tennessee, Texarkana, Dallas, and points in between.

For food, we want the shacks, gas station food counters, and strip-mall wonders. Not interested in anything that's been on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives or had any conversations with the James Beard folks.

It's the end of era here at Midnight Hour Sound System and the That Driving Beat radio show. Uwe's career is taking him away from Louisville to San Antonio, Texas! We've got three more episodes of left before he pulls on his boots and moseys on down the trail. James will be keeping the show going, but if you enjoyed any part of our banter, conversations of half-remembered facts, and shared stories of digging up musical artifacts tune in to A R T x F M WXOX 97.1 FM the next three Sundays 6-8 pm Eastern, or The Face Radio online radio station on Tuesdays 8-10 pm Eastern and help send him off.

I've got a nice stack of 45s with That Driving Beat on eBay ending in a few days. These are all spare copies of tunes I've DJed. Nothing crazy rare, but good playing copies of some classics and necessities in a soul 45 collection.
