The world suffered a huge loss today with Dolly Parton moving on. Her early pop/girl group singles on Monument that took off in the Northern Soul scene are really just a footnote to her legacy of entertainment, philanthropy, humanity, and compassion.

You know I'm gonna play all those Monument Northern Soul bangers on the next episode of That Driving Beat, and I'll be digging out some of her country hits and deep cuts for home listening.

RIP to the pride of East Tennessee.

I'll be in Atlanta for a short time next week on a work thing, and of course if the timing works out I'd like to get some record digging in. Folks, where am I gonna best use a couple of hours looking for 1960s 45s?

Here's the brief: I'll be in Midtown and might have some time after my day job responsibilities wrap up before I have to head to the airport. I won't have a car, so MARTA-accessible spots only.

I'm looking at a cluster of spots in Little Five Points, Disorder (with a side trip of paying respect to MLK at his birthplace nearby), and Vinyl Paradise as being easy to get to and promising from the photos I see online. Wuxtry and a couple of shops in Decatur look good, but more of a time stretch to get there.

Who's got the 1960s records with That Driving Beat in ATL, y'all?
