Hurricane Helen Deployment Update:

Hey there everyone! Sorry, I did a poor job of updating you all while Mom and I were on the field. It's just not my style. Anyway, I wanted to take a minute to say thank you to all of you who donated to CRI and who supported us in prayer. Here are some highlights and facts of the trip:

We were located in Arden, a suburb of Ashville.
We focused efforts on supply distribution and meals.

We served over 1000 people every day with supplies and warm meals. At this stage of the crisis, where people still don't have running water and electricity, a warm meal is a Godsend, and so are paper plates!

God blessed every step of our process. When other supply centers were shutting down due to no one coming, we were running out of supplies on a daily basis. Other distribution centers started bringing us their goods.

God's favor was abundant. Time and time again, we saw his care over the smallest things. We would run out of toilet paper, and five minutes later, a tractor-trailer would show up with nothing but toilet paper, etc. It happened more times than I can count.

We were told many times that part of our success was due to our equal acceptance and love of people of color, including the black and Hispanic population, which apparently can still be an issue in the rural areas around Ashville.

The deployment was a new trial for CRI where we incorporated local volunteers, including interpreters from the local Hispanic population, and it definitely stretched the tent pegs so to speak. Not only were volunteers getting involved with their own neighborhood, but at least one of them came to know Jesus and spent a couple weeks getting discipled!

The heart of CRI is to work a disaster from start to finish as God leads. The plan is for the team to stay in the area for as long as God wants us there. The deployment will evolve. It will move from distribution to clean up (that's already happening with tree removal), and then to rebuilding.
