We often receive inquiries about Visoko in Bosnia and Herzegovina. So, we put pen to paper ✍🏻 and interviewed our own editor Ana about her trip to Visoko with a group of Dutch adventurers. ✨ Sarajevo ✨
Many songs have been written and sung about Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the city where east and west merge effortlessly. There is no need to look long and hard for the perfect picture as the city is hidden in a long valley and surrounded on all sides by mountains and greenery. But this is not all, what makes Sarajevo so special are the people who live there or as locals say; 'Sarajevska raja'.

Stroll through the historic Baščaršija district and experience the warm hospitality of the locals. Bosnian coffee is a cherished tradition, brewed slowly in a džezva (copper pot) and served in small, delicate cups. It's often enjoyed with a piece of sugar and a rahat lokum (Turkish delight). The ritual is about savoring the moment and fostering connection. A must-try cultural experience!

We visited my grandmother who lives near Bugojno; she is my mother's mother, and thus my son's great-grandmother. She is 85 years old and the only grandmother still alive. I was fortunate that my other grandmother also lived a long life. Although she is not very mobile, she is mentally sharp and has an excellent memory. She is also cheerful, loves to talk, and is quite well-informed about everything and can join in on any conversation. We talked about some flights being sabotaged a week ago, and she said, 'Oh yes, that’s because of the hackers.' 😉 My son laughed, especially because she has an iPhone and uses WhatsApp to video call and keep in touch with her children and family. She was very happy to see us after six years! She rightly said it’s a shame we can't drop by more often for a coffee. That’s the downside of living far away—you can’t just visit without planning a trip. We enjoyed her company this afternoon and are grateful for this experience.

Ps. P.S. Although she has trouble standing, she made her famous burek for us, layered with pieces of meat. With local tomatoes and cucumbers, it was a royal meal 😋.

Although I'm not personally a huge fan of camping, I find it both fascinating and charming. Sleeping close to the sea or in the heart of nature. Campers create entire living spaces with little kitchens where meals are cooked, they relax in hammocks, kids play around the campsite, and of course, bicycles, mountain bikes, and SUP boards are a must.
