Foxes are a constant presence on 8th Ave. They travel their secrete highways through backyards and alleys in search of scraps, garbage, kids toys and their favourite, leather gloves. Some people view them as feral nuisances while others enjoy having glimpses of “wild” animals in the city. One thing is certain though: they sure are beautiful.

The iconic Chilkoot Trail Inn. We once met an old prospector sitting at the bar who mentioned he was staying there. He was an interesting old fella who looked like he’d seen better days, but had noticeably large gold jewelry dangling on his fingers and wrist. Conversation turned to gold prices and he quickly rattled off all the current Yukon players in the market, what they were trading at and why they would go up or down. He described the Chilkoot Inn as a “den of thieves” and looked forward to getting out of town as quickly as possible.

Co-creators Brendan Preston and Peter Jickling, chat with Dave White on CBC Yukon about The Last Avenue. Spoiler Alert: they whine a whole bunch about how much work they've put into this project 🙄

THE CHARACTERS: Dave has just moved to Whitehorse from Toronto for his new corporate job in mining. He’s not really an outdoorsy type but the money at his new job was too good to pass up. He’s convinced himself that he hated the rat race of the city and is excited to explore a new life in Whitehorse. David has bought all the newest outdoor gear, complete with an eco-friendly Subaru Forester, and his and hers kayaks to go on top. He treats his wife Christina a bit like an accessory to his life and is not paying enough attention to his relationship. Like most shallow people he’s more preoccupied with the surface and not with the bedrock holding everything together. THE CHARACTERS: Lahcen is a hard-working cab driver in his 40s, -- a recent immigrant to Canada from Morocco. He is a consummate professional and shows much patience when dealing with his drunk and/or casually racist late-night clientele. Lahcen spends as much time as possible with his wife and daughter. Though Lahcen is serious about his work and family, he also appreciates the absurdity and humour that can arise from small coincidences. When a chicken mysteriously appears outside his home one morning, Lahcen sees no option but to temporarily adopt it.
